PLAEA Teacher Leader Networks
Let's get better together
Networks are for teacher leaders who want to learn from one another, provide support for one another, share information, and cultivate a community of learners who assist each other to grow professionally. PLAEA staff want to support you with leveraging your role as a teacher leader for having a clear impact on teaching and learning.
Networks are for administrators who want to build on their understanding of how to support teacher leaders in the changing context of leadership for transforming teaching and learning.
The same content will be offered in two different locations so that participants have choice in locations and dates.

Content Path Outcomes
The same content options for instructional coaching, literacy, math, and technology will be offered in two different locations so that participants have choice in locations and dates. Teacher leaders are encouraged to attend all three sessions in the literacy and math content area as the content will build from one session to the next.
Literacy
Teacher leaders will be able to coach around the three instructional shifts of the Common Core Standards including the ELA and Content area Standards.
Nov. 2 in Spencer or Nov. 9 in Pocahontas - Regular practice with complex text and its academic language (vocabulary)
Feb. 8 in Spencer and Feb. 9 in Pocahontas - Reading, writing and speaking grounded in evidence from the text
April 16 in Spencer and April 17 in Pocahontas - Building knowledge through content-rich nonfiction
Mathematics
Teacher leaders will know and understand how positive mathematical norms impact the success of students in a math classroom. Teacher leaders will plan for and coach math teachers to create and implement a productive classroom culture for learning through the use of mathematical norms, routines, and practices.
- Nov. 2 in Spencer and Nov. 9 in Pocahontas: The focus will be on increasing positive, productive student behavior in math class by understanding and establishing classroom mathematical norms. Norms support student engagement in the Standards for Mathematical Practice, which increase student sense-making in mathematics and reduce the occurrence of negative behaviors.
- Feb. 8 in Spencer and Feb. 9 in Pocahontas: The focus will be on reviewing and using a variety of ways to gather math classroom data around classroom norms and mathematical practices to provide objective teacher feedback for use in a coaching cycle.
- April 16 in Spencer and April 17 in Pocahontas: The focus will be determined by participant needs from the previous session.
Technology
This content path will provide opportunities for coaches to . . .
Understand how effective technology integration includes aligning the instructional process with the appropriate technologies
Learn how to co-plan and support teachers in redesigning lessons to incorporate the effective use of technology aligned to student learning goals
Learn how to co-plan and support teachers in incorporating Iowa Core 21st Century Technology Literacy Skills with student learning goals and selecting the technologies that best enhance the learning
*Feedback from the participants will be used to influence future technology learning experiences. Content does not build from one session to the next so participants can attend any session
