Miss Beck's Class

Teaching children how to think rather than what to think...

Reflection

I was very pleased with the way each student handled our first week. I was mindful that changing teachers in the middle of the year could be a challenge. I am very excited to inform you that every student exceeded my expectations, accepting the changes with ease. We spent time getting to know each other as well as learn the new expectations. Believing these children are exceptionally talented, I am holding them to high standards. I expect them to practice staying focused, try their best, act safely, and respect others. We are working toward these expectations daily. I am so proud of them for the way they have accepted the change.

Upcoming events:

Feb. 2: Groundhog Day

Feb. 3: Daisy's Birthday

Feb. 12: PJ Day

Feb. 14: Å'Maya's Birthday

Feb. 15: No School

ClassDojo

If you have not already, I encourage you to join our class!

Students have been working hard to earn ClassDojo points. They receive points by exceeding our classroom expectations.

  • A student will be rewarded once he/she reaches 25 individual points.
  • The class will be rewarded once they reached 200 points.
*As of this newsletter, we have reached 145 class points! Yay!

Feburary 1st-5th

Week at a glance...

Math

This week in math, we will be exploring the term "half". Student will experiment with different materials, demonstrating their knowledge of halves. I look for students to be able to divide objects into "half" as well as show me what is "half of" an object. Students will be able to identify that "half" results in two equal parts.

Reading

In reading, we will be concentrating on the "oa", "ow", "-er", and "-est" sounds. Our comprehension practice will come from the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

Writing

We will begin writing thank-you letters this week. Please continue the discussion with your child about situations when a thank-you letter may be appropriate. I look forward to seeing who these precious children decide to thank.

Science

I know several students who will be thrilled to hear that we will be learning about amphibians this week!

Social Studies

With Feburary being Black History month, we are going to take a look at different time periods and various people that helped shape our unified society.
