Message from Dr. Rhodes
We hope our Bryant families are having a great week. We have a few reminders for everyone:
--Please do not drop students off on Kingsland Blvd. Please do not try to make a U-turn in front of the school where students are crossing and four lanes of traffic directed.
--During Field Days, we do not have lunch visitors. No lunch visitors tomorrow (3/10) and Friday (3/11).
We hope everyone has a safe and restful Spring Break next week.

Katy ISD "No Homework Night & Weekend"
From Nurse Osbourne: Medicine at School
All medications (prescription and nonprescription) brought to the school must be taken to the school clinic immediately, upon arrival. Students may transport prescription/nonprescription medication to and from school if the medication is not a controlled substance. Students may not be in possession of any prescription or nonprescription drug on school grounds during school hours unless officially authorized by the campus nurse for possession and self-administration of a prescription medication for asthma, anaphylaxis, or diabetes. The following procedures are to be followed regarding medications:
All prescription drugs dispensed through a physician's office must be in their original pharmacy container or packing and labeled by the pharmacist or physician.
The label must include:
- The student's name
- The physician's name
- The name and strength of the drug
- Amount of drug to be given
- Frequency of administration
- Date prescription was filled
All nonprescription drugs (including cough drops) must be in their original container. The written request for administration of these over-the-counter drugs, made by parent, guardian, or physician, must contain the following:
- The student’s name
- Name of drug
- Amount of drug to be given
- Scheduled hours when the drug is to be given
- Reason drug is to be given
- Date
- Appropriate signature
Medications prescribed or requested to be given three times a day or less are not to be given at school unless a physician prescribes a specific time during school hours, or the school nurse determines that a special need exists for an individual student.
Only one medication is allowed per properly labeled container. Students may not have prescription or non-prescription drugs in his or her possession on school grounds during school hours.
Natural and/or homeopathic-like products, not FDA approved, will not be dispensed in the school setting by school district personnel.
**There are no “stock” medications kept in the clinic. The only medications that are kept in the clinic are those which were brought in by the parent or student with appropriate paperwork.

Clinic Use
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate our way together through this pandemic as well as increased spread of other communicable diseases such as Flu, Strep, RSV, and Hand-Foot-Mouth. The clinic is a very busy place, and we are doing our best to keep everyone safe and taken care of.
This year we are continuing to implement clinic referral guidelines. We have seen clinic visits grow to over 100 per day. To provide quality clinic care to those who need it, Dr. Rhodes has asked we strictly follow Katy ISD Clinic Referral process (see below). There are always exceptions and teachers are trained to guide self-care as well as triage. Teachers are also encouraged to use their judgement and consult with the nurse as needed.
The goals of the Katy ISD Clinic Referral Guidelines are:
1. To keep students in the classroom as much as possible to optimize instruction and learning.
2. To provide a framework for the appropriate utilization of the Clinic.
An added benefit to our students is to teach and foster self-care and self-awareness.
Please read the guidelines and check out the decision tree teachers use with students.
Minor injuries are extremely common in elementary school and teachers or even students themselves often clean injuries and apply a Band-Aid. No calls are made for minor injuries. Calls to parents are generally only made for injuries that may either need closer observation, involve head injuries (more than very minor bump), injuries to face, severe pain, and possible sprains or broken bones.
What to do when your student is sick
For illness, please follow the current Katy ISD 2021-2022 Safe Return to School Plan. If your child was out sick and went to the doctor, and/or received testing, please bring or send a copy for your child’s records and attendance. All pending communicable illness tests need to be completed prior to your child returning to school. For example, if your child takes a RAPID COVID test and then takes a PCR test, your child cannot return to school until you have received both the RAPID and PCR test results.
Absences should be reported using online form or called to the front desk 281-234-4300. Nurse Osbourne is also available for advice or questions at 281-234-4325. Please leave a message if she is unable to answer when you call.
For any other questions please contact Christilynn Osbourne, RN, MSN at ChristilynnJPriceOsbourne@katyisd.org or 281-234-4325.

Dismissal Instructions & Procedures
Please click the links in Dr. Rhodes' Message above for Arrival/Dismissal Maps
This year we will continue to offer each family a unique dismissal tag color and number. For example, if you have multiple children attending Bryant living in the same household, you will receive a dismissal number with one set of car tags for your family. This will be available at Meet the Teacher. This system allows us to account for each student and maintain proper security measures. Student safety is always a priority!
Car Riders:
Car riders stage for dismissal via double stack lanes in our car rider lane which wraps behind the school. Staff members will be entering your dismissal number and color into a Google Doc which is shared inside the school. It is imperative that once you have entered the left or right lane, you cannot change lanes. This causes great challenges because staff members are staging students inside using the order recorded in the Google Doc. If you are picking up your child as a car rider, please use the HANGING TAGS provided for you. If families are carpooling, a great idea is to use a hanger with clips to show more than one dismissal number on your rear-view mirror. Please hang the tag(s) from the rear view mirror, not in the corner of the window. If you do not have the physical number for the child or children you are picking up, you will not be able to pick up a child from the car rider line. See map below for more directions. Please watch this video for an overview of our car rider system.
Daycare Riders:
On our transportation survey above, you can tell us your child’s teacher and the name of their daycare bus.
Walkers/Bike Riders:
Students in PK-1st will be released to an adult only. If you have a PK-1st grader that you would like to walk home with an older sibling, please see the directions in the manila envelope provided during Meet the Teacher. The older sibling will not need a dismissal number to pick up their younger sibling. Parents MUST have the physical dismissal number in your hand in order to pick up your PK-1st grade child from school. If you do not have the number in your hand you will be asked by a staff member to go to the front office. Students in 3rd-5th will leave campus on their own, and will not need a dismissal number in order to exit the building.
Bus Riders:

The Katy ISD Transportation Department is excited to communicate that all 2021 – 2022 route buses continue to be equipped with GPS systems. With the GPS systems, parents, campuses and transportation personnel are able to track buses in real-time through a downloadable application from Edulog. For parents and patrons having children who are eligible for transportation services in Katy ISD, click here for information on how to download the application. Bryant's campus code is: 69167016
Click here for step-by-step instructions for how to install the app and track our buses.
