This Week at Marine City Middle School...
Hello Mariner Families,
Looking ahead to next week, we have a fun week planned to head into our mid-winter break. Next week will be our Wellness Week, concluding with the East China district-wide Wellness Weekend, designed to disconnect and step away from all things school. During the week, students are invited to participate in a number of small activities during their 4th hour/seminar classes that have been created to increase their body, mind, and spirit wellness.
- Monday, students will have quick workout activities
- Tuesday is a school-wide HAT DAY and students will have a mindfulness activity and will have the opportunity to pledge to do the wellness walk on Thursday
- Wednesday, students will have either a workout or mindfulness activity
- Thursday, students will complete the wellness walk. This walk will be a designed 8-10 minute walk around a coned off course in the parking lot during student recess time. Students that complete the walk will receive an apple and a chance to win an apple pie at the end of the day
Speaking of next week, a couple of schedule reminders...
- Wednesday, February 12th is an early release day. The school day will end at 12:24 with breakfast and lunch both being served during the day.
- Friday, February 14th through Monday, February 17th the school will be closed for Mid-Winter Break.
One more note before I leave you to your weekends...parents please help us out with student drop off in the morning. It is especially dangerous this time of year, with snow covering the parking lot and the morning darkness. Please be careful out there, and wait until you are rounding the corner closest to the school before students get out of the car. We have had many students darting between cars in the morning and the last thing we want is for anyone to get hurt. Thanks!
Have a wonderful winter weekend.

This Week in the Positivity Project...
For the next two shortened school weeks, MCMS students will learn about an often-difficult-to-discuss character strength, LOVE. This is one that makes many middle schoolers squeamish, but it is so important. In the Positivity Project, LOVE is defined as the we think, feel, and act towards the people that we have close relationships with. While the most common first thought with LOVE is that of a romantic relationship, there are many types of love: the love between family members, between teammates, and the kind that exists between friends. The video below is a clip of LOVE between two very close friends, one battling a terminal illness.
Next Thursday, will be our January/February P2 student celebration assembly. We are looking forward to playing some games and recognizing student exemplars of our most recent character strengths learned about in P2.
