Cottonwood Creek Cougar Chronicle
January 7, 2022
At Cottonwood Creek, we value...
Differences. We recognize and celebrate each individual for their diversity.
Authentic and relevant learning experiences that promote independence, curiosity, creativity and critical thinking for ALL.
Perseverance, patience and relationships built around empathy and kindness.
- Collaborative learning for both staff and students.
- Physical and psychological safety.
I hope you enjoyed the winter break and were able to spend time with your friends and family. My girls and I were able to join my husband in California for the last two weeks of his military assignment, and it was great to have our family back together.
As I do every year, I start the new year with reflection. I reflect on what's going well and what areas need to be adjusted, both personally and professionally. As I reflect on my personal journey as principal, I find myself focusing on the past two years. Wow, what a journey that has been! In March 2020 we were tasked with what seemed impossible. As the principal, the partnership, collaboration, and strength that came as a result is what I most appreciate. Through struggle, people either fall apart or come together. Through my eyes, I saw our community leaning in to support our staff and I witnessed our teachers giving it their best to support our students and families. Together, we continue to do amazing things at Cottonwood Creek! It has been very humbling to see our staff and community navigate these difficult times. So, thank you for your ongoing support of Cottonwood Creek and our staff, and thank you for believing in the work we do.
Sincerely,
Katie Johnson
Principal
Cottonwood Creek Elementary School
Drop Off/Pick Up Lane Safety Procedures
As we enter 2022, I wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our drop off and pick up lane procedures. The safety of our students, staff and families is priority, and by following these procedures you help contribute to a safe drop off and pick up of all.
All cars are required to enter the drop off/pick up lane as indicated on the map below and create a single file lane. Please follow the directions of staff and signage.
- Students must enter and exit the right side of the car. Other people in the car MUST remain in the car at all times.
- Please load and unload in the "LOADING ZONE" as indicated by signs (between the two crosswalks)
- Please pull all the way forward to the last sign/crosswalk. When you don't do this, traffic backs up onto Orchard creating additional traffic concerns.
- Please do not use the parking lot lane to drop off or pick up your children.
CCSD COVID Information
Mask Mandate
The Cherry Creek School District requires masks inside school and district buildings for ALL students PreK-12 and ALL staff regardless of vaccination status.
Vaccination Resources
The COVID-19 vaccine is the best way to protect yourself, your family, our students and our community from the COVID-19 virus. At this time, all people who are 5 years old or older can receive the COVID-19 vaccine at no charge. Please take advantage of the vaccination resources listed on our website to schedule a vaccine appointment for you or your child.
COVID Testing
CCSD will be providing ongoing testing availability at our ISF location. Testing through COVID Check is available to students, staff and families, and our community at large at no cost. Due to a large increase in testing appointments at COVIDCheck Colorado, if you have symptoms please schedule your test appointment ahead of time and arrive on time for your appointment. primarybio.com/l/cherry (CCSD students and staff) covidcheckcolorado.org (community)
New Isolation Guidance
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) issued new guidance regarding isolation periods for people who test positive for COVID-19. In the updated guidance, people with COVID-19 can isolate for 5 days instead of 10, followed by 5 days of wearing a mask around other people if they are asymptomatic or have greatly improved symptoms after day 5 of isolation. For staff and students, that means that if they test positive for COVID and are asymptomatic on day 5, that person can return to work/school on day 6 and wear a mask in compliance with the county mask mandate.

Cottonwood Creek Community Meetings
At this time, community meetings will move to virtual platform. Watch for specific details related to individual meetings scheduled.
Cottonwood Creek Visitors and Volunteers
Please review the information below regarding updates to CCSD Volunteer/Partner Practices.
Update to CCSD Volunteer/Partner Process
We continue to welcome visitors and volunteers into our schools. If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the online volunteer form. It should only take a few minutes to complete. We want to thank you in advance and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.
New Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. Therefore, beginning January 2022, we must ensure that every volunteer completes a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools. This information will be automatically linked to the Raptor System. The good news is they only need to complete this form once per school year, and it will meet the requirement to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.
To access the form, please click on the following link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NzU0OmVuLVVT
Definitions
- Volunteers are guests who are supporting students, completing tasks, and under the immediate supervision and direction of District licensed personnel.
- Visitors are guests who are solely entering the building to conduct business such as participate in a meeting, eat lunch with their student, or attend a school sponsored activity.
The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a District ID or a badge printed from the Raptor System.
Thank you again for your continued support.
