The History of Hovercrafts

Summery

Hovercrafts are a vehicle that moves above water or land on a fusion of air provided by a downward blast. Hovercrafts are also frequently refered to as an ACV or a air- cushion vehicle. Hovercrafts in the early 1900's were not very popular, although these days we use them for war, entertainment, transportation, etc.

1775

Even though the idea of on water transportation was there from the 1400's the first person to recognize the significance of hovercrafts by writing a book about the importance of water transportation. This book was written in 1775 by Adam Smith.

1915-1916

Untill 1915 the idea of a hovercraft remained just an idea. It was not untill 1916 that someone put an idea on paper that seemed functional to hover over water. The idea was called impossible by some people and other people said that he was a genius.

1956

The first time that someone made a successful working hovercraft was in 1956. This hovercraft was made by Christopher Cockerell. Christopher was able to make it across the English Channel.

Late 1900's

The idea of hovercrafts was quickly adopted by many people. The government used the hovercraft for wars and it was used in a very useful way.

Today

The hovercraft has been modified to be more effective from when it was originally made by Cockerell in 1956. The hovercraft craft can go further, faster, looks better, etc. The hovercraft today is an important invention that helps us do many things with ease.
