Seniors: What Should I Be Doing Now?
-College acceptances – Seniors are asked to please provide the counselor with a copy of their college acceptance letters as well as any scholarship awards from the schools. Seniors who were not accepted at their first choice colleges should see the counselor to search for rolling admissions opportunities.
-Interested in CCBC? LRHS will be holding a CCBC Instant Admissions Day on February 27th at 9:30 am. Sign up on Naviance to attend.
-If interested in CCBC, there are opportunities to reduce the cost. Want to know how to go to CCBC tuition free? See below for information on the Baltimore County and Maryland College Promise Programs.
-Apply for financial aid. Regardless of whether the student will attend a career/tech school, a community college, or a 4-year college, families should complete the FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid (http://www.fafsa.gov) between now and the end of February. Families will use their tax information from 2018. Both the student and parent first need to secure an FSA ID at https://fsaid.ed.gov
Students will only be considered for financial aid from the state of Maryland if the FAFSA is filed by March 1st.
Parents who need assistance with their FAFSA are encouraged to contact Ms. Campbell to set up an appointment for assistance.
-Once you have done your FAFSA and included at least one MD school, check your email to see if you qualify for the Guaranteed Access Grant – Families that meet the income guidelines listed with a senior who has a 2.5 GPA or above, may also be eligible for the Maryland Guaranteed Access Grant. Grant awards can be up to $19,100, depending on the financial need. For more information:
https://mhec.state.md.us/preparing/Pages/FinancialAid/ProgramDescriptions/prog_gagrant.aspx.
To be eligible, families must complete the FAFSA by March 1st and also complete the grant application with materials submitted by April 1st by mail, available at
https://mdcaps.mhec.state.md.us. Students will need to create a user ID and password, and will then receive a link to the application.
Families must be Maryland residents. The student must be enrolled in a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university full time (12 or more credits per semester), degree-seeking, undergraduate student, and must demonstrate financial need.

- Make sure that you create a College Board account as this will be crucial for college applications. Prepare for the SAT which will be given in April to all Juniors.
