WPD Police Dog Session

The Westfield Police Department was nice enough to bring Scout, the police dog, to Maple Glen Elementary School to give the kids a lesson in how police officers work with dogs to keep people safe! They talked about the different kinds of police dogs and Scout got to show the students how he sniffs out contraband!

Passport to the Globe

Big picture
We are excited to announce the third annual Passport to the Globe at WHS! This is a joint collaboration presented by our Steel Pan, Culinary Arts, and World Language students and staff. This event is being held to recognize and celebrate the many cultures within our Westfield community, and will be your "passport" to an evening of international cuisine, culture, music, and art!

Performing Arts

Students from four different steel pan classes will be performing a concert with a variety of music from around the globe in the auditorium. Special guest Steve Lawrie, originally from South Africa, who built his career in steel pan building, tuning, performing, and arranging music, will be joining the concert.

Culinary Arts (Family and Consumer Sciences)- Advanced Global Nutrition and Cuisine Class

Following the concert, we will have a Cultural Cuisine Food Stations set-up, presented by our Advanced Global Nutrition and Culinary students and the Foodies Rock Program. Each team chose a country to research, and from there developed a recipe. The teams will be preparing their recipe for guests to sample. They are also decorating the tables with artifacts that represent aspects of the culture of the country they chose to study and will have some interesting facts to share. Be sure to come hungry for good food and knowledge!

WHS Clubs and World Language

Also following the concert, student lead clubs and organizations, as well as the World Language Department, will be representing different cultures around the world. Come enjoy learning a new language, a cultural dance, and about the many cultures within our school and community!

Thank you to all of the families, community members and local organizations that played a huge part in making this happen. It was great to have parent involvement again (with the outdoor event!) and we look forward to do this again next year!

Shamrock Shout Out

This week's shout out goes to Sam Strahm from Abby Kovacs!
Big picture
"During a middle school cross country meet at Zionsville West Middle School, Sam Strahm, a WMS 8th grader, showed compassion with an injured competitor from Brownsburg East by encouraging him to stay in the race, and accompanying him for the reminder of the race. Sam represented Westfield in such a positive way."

Below is an email from a parent of the injured runner.
