CFES 4th Grade Updates
Dear CFES 4th Grade Families,
Spring Break is here! Wishing your family safety and many moments of relaxation and fun.
With the change of calendar from the district, our final week of the 3rd grading period will be March 22nd-26th. Please check in with your student during the break to see what materials may need to be replenished for their return after the break. We still have several weeks of learning and many students are needing materials (scissors, colored pencils, dry erase markers, etc.)
Please be sure your student remembers to bring his/her water bottle and headphones or earbuds to school every day.
Our CFES Great Expectations focus this week will be:
Life Principle: effort - doing one’s best in an endeavor pain or adversity with courage
Quote: "All things are difficult before they are easy" --Thomas Fuller
Creekside Forest Creed
I am proud to be a Creekside Forest Cougar.
I come to school each day respecting my teachers,
my classmates, and myself.
I am responsible for my choices and their results.
I care for others with all my heart.
Never quitting is my #1 tool;
I am a leader at the #1 school.
Go CREEKSIDE!
Please be encouraged to discuss with your child what the CFES Creed and weekly quote and life principle means to them and help make life connections to reinforce.

4th Grade Call to Greatness Chant for Roll Call
When we return from Spring Break, we will begin our "Roll Call" chants during our live Call to Greatness each morning. Our fourth graders had the opportunity to submit a chant last week. The teachers narrowed down the submissions and then the students voted on their favorite. We just learned it before we left. Click HERE to view it and help them remember!

Language Arts & Social Studies Updates
Reading: We'll start our week back with a trip back in time! Yes, we're studying our final genre of historical fiction as we begin our next reading unit on comparing genres. A primary focus will still include nonfiction as we circle back to support any TEKS that we're mastered. Please keep your child reading at home. We're building strong readers who are ready to take on the challenges of 5th grade. It's just 9 weeks away!
Writing: It's WRITING BOOTCAMP time!! Yes!! Your child will start the day on Monday with a bag full of construction-themed goodies as we begin a writing review of skills. Each day will bring something new, so be sure to ask your child. We're also working in a warm up each day where students will be practicing identifying the different types of sentences: simple, compound, and complex. This was a skill across the board where students will benefit from additional teaching, modeling, and practice. Be sure to notice the "types of sentences" as you read together at home. : )
Vocabulary:
Unit 11 is NEXT! Please encourage your child to study at home as we work towards familiarity and mastery of these challenging words. Vocabulary Book Online.
Handwriting:
Assignments will be found online and students will work in their blue cursive books. We'll work on a few skills per week.
Students may practice at home as well. Cursive is a beautiful skill to learn and become proficient in. It also assists students in READING cursive writing as well.
Social Studies: We're moving into the Civil War! History is flying by in SS. We'll look into the causes and effects, and also compare and contrast the views of the northern and southern states.
