Social Studies: Students will learn about the causes and effects of the dust bowl.
MATH AND SCIENCE
Your child is about to explore comparing fractions and adding and subtracting fractions. As your child extends their knowledge of this concept throughout fourth grade, they will learn the following concepts:
Compare fractions with unlike numerators and denominators, using the greater than (>), less than (<), and equal to (=) symbols and pictorial models, number lines, multiplication, and common denominators
Find solutions to problems with addition and subtraction of fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers
Evaluate reasonableness of their sums and differences by using benchmark fractions
The students will we learning about soil. The students are expected to examine the properties of soil, including color and texture, capacity to retain water, and the ability to support the growth of plants.
5TH GRADE LEVEL GOALS
SCIENCE
Students will be exploring ecosystems and how the living and nonliving components interact together. Students will also discover the different roles within ecosystems. Student expectations for this unit are:
· Observe the way organisms live and survive in their ecosystem by interacting with the living and nonliving components.
· Predict the effects of changes in ecosystems caused by living organisms, including humans, such as the overpopulation of grazers or the building of highways.
· Describe the flow of energy within a food web, including the roles of the Sun, producers, consumers, and decomposers.

Character Building Class
We are proud to teach our kiddos about the concepts behind “7 Mindsets.”
Classroom Teachers are providing these weekly lessons, and we are excited to engage with students in discussion regarding the same.
Mrs. Cobb is providing character-building (respect, responsibility, etc.,) classes through our Wacky Wednesday classes, and getting to know our kids via Lunch Bunch.
If we may be of assistance to you or your child in any way, please do not hesitate to reach out. We also have access to community resources to assist with mental health.
Thank you!
STUDENT COUNCIL
Pleasanton Elementary is proud of the accomplishments of its students. Students that are chosen to run for student council representative for the school year will need to meet the requirements of the homeroom teachers. Elected representatives will meet periodically with the Student Council sponsors to discuss upcoming projects and responsibilities.
Last year, the Pleasanton Elementary Student Council participated in the Trim the Tree fundraiser and made a donation to the Atascosa Animal Allies. They also collected non-perishable food items for a local food pantry.
We are excited to announce that our Student Council members are participating in morning announcements by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge.
