Miss Achelpohl's Camp
third grade 2013-2014
November News
November is here and it brings a lot of exciting events! First things first, I hope that everyone is taking care of themselves and staying well. Being sick is no fun and we don't want sick kiddos in class. If your child is going to miss school, please be sure to contact Ms. Toni at talexander@westlakecharter.com to excuse their absence.
If you haven't already signed up for a Parent-Teacher Conference, please click here to view available times.
Extra Homework is available on Kid Blog and IXL.

English Language Arts
Students will be working on Plot and Author's Purpose. The students will compare the Main Idea with the Author's Purpose and connect the two while Reading and Writing.
Writing
We are wrapping up Narrative Writing and about to transition into Opinion Writing! This is my favorite type of writing and I feel the students will really enjoy it as well. I love to have them try and convince me to buy a class pet, have a holiday party, or be the teacher for the day. I am still enjoying reading their pieces on Kid Blog. I'd like for more students to be engaged in Kid Blog. Please click here to sign in, the password is 'camper'. Once we get the laptop cart back from NWEA testing, we will be getting online in the classroom at least once a week to Blog!
Math
The students love learning and practicing all of the 'tricks' for Multiplication. They should be practicing each night at home too. Making Flash Cards is a great way to memorize these facts. I like to think of them like Sight Words, they should just be automatic!
Science
The students will begin their next Science Unit in Energy and Matter. "Thank you!" to those parents who offered and donated the items for our Science experiment next Tuesday! The students will love to become Scientists in the afternoon.
