St. Viator Parish School
Viator Voice, Summer Update Vol.3: August 10, 2020
Welcome to the 2020-21 Academic School Year!
Dear Parents,
On behalf of our Pastor, faculty, and entire staff, we extend a joyful “welcome” to all of our Parish School families. While we must endure change in this global pandemic to safely return, we are eager to begin this year’s journey serving Our Lord by joining with you as partners in educating your children. Last week, we offered our Reopening Framework (below). If you did not have a chance to read, please do so and acknowledge as soon as possible.
As a reminder, the 2020-21 School Calendar, Monthly Calendar, Parent-Student Handbook, and Student Supply lists have been placed on our school website: stviatorschool.org to print at your convenience. This information may be found under "Parent Life" and "Student Life". Please email the office at svsschool.org with any questions.
Next Monday, you will be picking up a yellow folder with important information. Our next Viator Voice is scheduled for Monday, August 24th.
Blessings,
Mrs. Tracy Brunelle, Principal

The student supplies to be purchased at school will be handed out the first day of school and an invoice for the supplies will be in your student's yellow folder. Here is the supply list: https://www.stviatorschool.org/uploads/1/1/7/1/117157963/school_store_list.png

***It is imperative that we receive permission prior to August 17th! ***
Office
There is a sign that hangs above our entry door: Be it known to all who enter here, that Christ is the reason for this school. He is the unseen, but ever present teacher in the classrooms, the model of its faculty, and the inspiration of its students.
We take comfort in that statement daily. We are confident that Christ is present and we trust Him. Yet, there has been much that has challenged our faith these past few weeks. The inability to come to school or church has been unbearable. We are looking forward to returning safely this school year. In doing so, we must change what was "normal" as we start this new school. We must minimize visitors on campus. Only one visitor at a time will be permitted in the office.
If you have anything for the office such as signed copies of forms or tuition payments, we ask that you give to your student to bring to school in the yellow folder. If you need to make an appointment with faculty or staff, we ask that you email them directly to schedule a virtual meeting. Thank you for your patience during this challenging time.
Parish Office Visits
Please call 702-733-8323 to schedule an appointment for the Parish Office, including Youth Ministry. If you have something to simply drop off, you may do so through your child's yellow folder.
At drop off or dismissal, we are asking that you park in the MAIN church lot rather than in front of the Parish Center. The spots in front are reserved for handicap visitors entering the Parish Center ONLY.
Deliveries
Unfortunately, NO DELIVERIES will be permitted to the office under the current protocol. If a student forgets a backpack or iPad or notebook, they will have to wait until the end of the day. If they forget a lunch, a hot lunch, if available, or a snack will be provided for a fee. No lunch deliveries from parents, UberEats, Postmates, etc., will be allowed onto campus.
Please make arrangements the night before to insure students have all that they need walking into school each day.
Extended Care Program
We are pleased to announce that St. Viator Parish School offers an Extended Care Program to support of our children and parents. The program is staffed by school employees, and on rare occasion, volunteer personnel. The program begins on the first official day of school with supervision from 6:45 a.m.to 7:45 a.m. and again from 2:45 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on early dismissal days from 12:00 p.m. –6:00 p.m.
Due to new protocols on socially distancing, capacity will be limited this year and registrations will be taken on first come, first serve basis. Space is VERY LIMITED this year.
Parents MUST register for the Extended Care program. See the Extended Care Handbook for more information: https://www.stviatorschool.org/uploads/1/1/7/1/117157963/parent_student_handbook_final_2020-2021.pdf
Before Care

After Care
The After Care program runs from 2:45 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on early dismissal days from 12:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. This year, students will not be together in the cafeteria. Instead, we will be using a few classrooms on campus grouped by cohorts and socially distanced. At 3:00 pm each day, students will be directed to the shade structure on the playground to check in and receive a snack. This will allow us to properly disinfect and sanitize the rooms that will be in use. We have four staff and four rooms. Pick up will occur at the Courtyard gate. When you arrive, please park and call 702-732-4477, extension 126, and your student will be directed to meet you at the gate.

Uniforms
Parents, we need your help...
As we learn more each day about COVID-19, the information evolves and we need to be flexible. Due to new CDC guidelines and after conferring with Diocesan medical experts regarding Governor Sisolak’s mandate on “face masks,” face shields are not an acceptable substitute for cloth facial coverings. Nor are they to be used as the sole method of face covering if at a distance of less than six feet from other individuals. Teachers may use face shields when teaching or lecturing for short periods of time. If closer than six feet to another person, at any time, especially in a classroom setting, a face mask covering is required.
It is unreasonable to expect children to follow the American Pediatric recommendation or Governor Sisolak's mandate if they are not wearing face coverings now. Please start now. Start slow, 15-20 minutes, build from there each day.
We want to be successful in our safe return; we cannot do without your support!
New Guidance from Bishop Advisory Restoration Council based upon NVDOE and SNHD Directives
Q: Can face shields be used INSTEAD of masks?
No. Face shields cannot be used instead of masks, as per directives from the Nevada Department of Education and the Southern Nevada Health District.
Students who are not able to wear masks should consider starting the school year in distance learning.
From our School Nurse...
Pre-Kindergarten News
Pre-Kindergarten students must have their Health Form completed by their doctor/nurse and returned to the school office prior to attending school (August 17, 2020).
Are your IMMUNIZATIONS up-to-date?
As a reminder, immunizations will still be required per Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 392.435 and 394.192 especially for students going into Pre-K, K and 7th grade. This will ensure children will continue to be protected against vaccine-preventable diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Per Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 392.435 and 394.192, if a parent or legal guardian fails to provide their child’s immunization documentation, the student must be excluded from school and may not be admitted until the requirements for immunization have been met.
Let’s work together as an immunization community to ensure children are protected against vaccine-preventable disease and ready to return to school.
