A mountain lion is a powerful predator found in the America's. It is known as through many different names, it is called a puma, cougar, and catamount. The mountain lion can also be found in many different habitats, anywhere from Florida swamps to Canadian forests. Mountain lions mostly like to prey on deer, but they will also go for smaller animals such as a coyote or a porcupine. The mountain lion will usually be found hunting during the night. Mountain lions maintain territories that overlap with many females. They will attempt to dominate matings with those females. At one point the female will start vocalize freely and rub against nearby objects. The male will respond with similar yowls and will sniff the female's genital area. Mating occurs throughout the years. Mountain lions are related to many other animals like the cheetah, lynx, puma, etc. Mountain lions are very active, they walk and run on all fours and will jump. The movements of a mountain lion are very similar to other four legged animals, like dogs or cats. The length of a mountain lion can range from 3.25 to 5.25 ft. there tail also ranges from 23.5 to 33.5 in. The average weight of a mountain lion is about 136 lb.. Mountain lion are also currently endangered.
