How Does Our Garden Grow?
- Drip irrigation and general watering systems has started. The system will be undergoing fine tuning.
- Drip irrigation installed on Plot 5 (area next to the main gate with rows). Carrots, broccoli, radishes, and peas planted in first 3 rows. 4 rows are available for further plantings. If anyone is interested in transplants feel free to plant. Please label the start and end of the plantings. Cold tolerant plants are: cabbage, spinach, chard, turnips, broccoli, lettuce, radish, carrots, kale, and garlic. Additional drip irrigation systems will be installed in the spring.
- 2 large sprinklers installed to water the general area for the cover crop growth. A third sprinkler has yet to be installed.
- Cover crop consists of White/red/crimson clovers, peas, and hairy vetch. The cover crop is a cheap way to add nitrogen, organics, bio-diversity and control erosion as well as invite pollinators.
Trick or Treat! We want your leaves! If you have bags of leaves, please bring them to the garden for our leaf compost pile.

Roasted Okra Recipe
Submitted by Helen B.
2. Wash and trim the top off the okra.
3. Cut the okra in 1/2 in or two of paprika or cayenne if you dare. Toss until all okra is covered.
4. Cover a cookie sheet with foil. Spread the okra in a single layer. Pop it in the oven. Roast for 10 minutes. Take it out, turn it over, put it back in for another 10 minutes (longer if you want it crispy).
Eat and enjoy right away! :)
