Bison Reporter
February 2021
From The Principal
Our Race to Read event is taking place and soon will be handing out books to classrooms who read the most books. For the month of January, we read 1,885 books! Thank you to those families who have sent in logs.
I am looking forward to playing BINGO with you and your families on February 18 630-8:00. Many businesses have donated items for prizes and we will have some Bison Gear. You may also join us at Wolly's if your family would like to eat dinner and play Bingo. They will have the Bingo event streaming as well as teachers there to help out.
Attached is a survey about our preschool & junior kindergarten programs. I look forward to hearing from you about these programs and hearing the needs of our community.
Students in grades 3-5 will be taking the South Dakota Interim Assessment during the week of February 16-18 for Reading/Math. This test is very similar to the spring Smarter Balanced Test they will all take in April. I know the students will do their best and show us what they know. This test will give our teachers an idea about what our students strengths are and where they are still needing instruction at.

February STEAM Challenge Check out this article and find fun activities to do together. If your family completes an activity, take a picture and send it me, Mrs. Karn to be put into a bucket for a prize. | Literacy TipReading Focus: Fluency | Grade: K-5 Reading aloud to your child is appropriate across all ages. Try reading using different voices for the different characters in the story. Ask questions as you read! “What do you think will happen?” “Do you think that was a good idea?” “I wonder what the character will do now!” Talk aloud about your own thinking as you read aloud. “I don’t think that was a good idea for the character to do that!” “If that was me in the story I would have been scared!” Make connections to the story as you read. “I went on a roller coaster once, I loved it!” “When my friend did that to me, it hurt my feelings.” “I remember when I did that, it didn’t turn out so well.” For more ideas, blogs and videos for parents and reading go to:
