Family Literacy Night
Thank you to all the families who attended family literacy night!
Ohio's Structured Literacy Plan
The PDFs attached below will take you to documents provided to school districts by The Ohio State University Center On Education and Training For Employment. The first document is a concise explanation about what structured literacy instruction looks like and the second is a Dyslexia Resource Guide for Families.
To align with the science of reading, Clear Fork uses Heggerty for phonemic awareness and Fundations for phonics instruction. This year, we have added Geodes, decodable readers, that align with the scope and sequence of the Fundations curriculum.
You may be wondering why we have not sent home books yet......don't worry, they will be coming! In the meantime........
We encourage our parents to play an active role in your child's reading development by reading aloud to them each night. This daily interaction will help them build language skills, learn about the world, and develop empathy and emotional awareness. Reading together also provides an opportunity for parents and children to connect. The benefits of reading to children include:
Reading Aloud Builds Vocabulary
Reading Aloud Improves Comprehension and Active Listening
Reading Aloud Reduces Stress and Makes Us Happy
Reading Aloud Strengthens Fluency
Reading Aloud Can Improve Working Memory
Don't be afraid to read a chapter book aloud! One of my favorites that I used to read to my children at bedtime was The Chronicles of Narnia.
