A Note from Dr. Burdett
Happy Diwali! We had a great week at PHS! I was able to visit several classrooms and it is such a joy to see what our kids are doing. Our kids are applying the knowledge that they obtain to various situations and I certainly appreciate the work our teachers are doing to challenge our students in this way. Hope Squad organized a "Wear Orange Day" on Wednesday as part of Unity Day and as a stance against bullying. Students and staff wore orange and we pledged to stamp out bullying in all forms by creating an orange chain link displayed in the main hall (see photo below). Student Council continues to add to the spirit of the school and to bring awareness to important issues by promoting Red Ribbon Week through decorating the school and having dress up days (see below). Our kids want to support and uplift each other and Hope Squad and Student Council lead the way in doing this at PHS. We are proud of the leadership of so many of our Eagles!
Congratulations to football on the 42-16 win over Plano West. Volleyball bounced back from a loss to Plano West on Tuesday night to defeat Allen on Senior Night at PHS on Friday. We are tied for 1st place in District for Volleyball! We wish all the best to Boys and Girls XC as they compete in the Regional Meet tomorrow in Dallas!
A couple of weeks ago, Film and Broadcast students traveled to New York City to compete in the All American High School Film Festival. This is the largest high school film festival in the world with competitors from all over the globe! There were three challenges in which we competed: 3 Day Short film, 2 Day Broadcast Challenge, 1 day editing challenge. We had spectacular, unprecedented results this year. Being the largest High School Film Festival in the World, this is essentially a "World Title" win for Prosper, Texas. This being a huge event, we had to apply to even compete and we've never even been nominated for an award. Congratulations to all of these amazing Eagles!
- 3 Day Short Film Challenge- Runner up - Arjun Desai, Tony Zeleke, Leah Devore, Rylee Price, Chloe Selvey, Zoe Mendez, Ryan Little, Katie Johnson.
- 2 Day Broadcast challenge- 1st place - Mason Mumy, Christina Folsom, Goel Yongo, Brenna Gibbons. They got to work with famed street basketball legend Black Jack Ryan.
- 1 Day Editing challenge- 1st place - Caiden Jackson
A special "Thank You" to Paulo Amargo, one of our many talented fine arts students, for sharing his orchestra arrangement of Fluffy Bluff Galaxy for String Orchestra inspired by the video game Super Mario Galaxy 2. Paulo's score was published in MuseScore.com. You can listen to Paulo's piece by clicking here.
We would like to invite all family and friends of the Class of 2021 from both Rock Hill High School and Prosper High School to attend our Junior Ring of Honor Ceremony on Tuesday, November 19th, at 6:30 PM in the PHS Auditorium. The Ring of Honor class ring presentation is designed to honor students and allow them to recognize one influential educator who has impacted their lives. Any Junior who wants to participate should complete this form.
We have accumulated a number of items in our Lost & Found since the beginning of school. These items are located in the Administration Office upstairs. If your child has lost something, please have him/her see Mrs. Mueller. We will donate all items on Friday, November 1st. Parents, please refrain from parking in the bus loading zone in front of the school in the afternoon. Our buses starting lining up at 3:45 pm and we need the front drive (the U-shaped drive in front of the school) completely clear of all cars so our buses can line up and get our kids home to do chores and to do homework :).
Please look at the calendar and see what you can attend. Our students would love to see you supporting them and noticing how our inputs are affecting our outcomes.

Counseling in the News
It’s National Transfer Student Week, a great time for students and counselors to remember that the college where you begin doesn’t have to be the college where you graduate, as long as you have an effective plan.
Beginning this school year, the AP Program is providing free digital practice resources. A new question bank will help students master content and skills with real AP questions that their teacher assigns. Personal progress checks will give students real-time evaluation of their work with helpful score explanations. And, the tools are mobile-friendly.
If you took the PSATs before the era of social media, you might be missing out on something strange and wonderful: the world of PSAT memes (or, perhaps, #psatmemes) that have flooded social media in the past week.
Dallas schools are relying on donations to help rebuild classrooms after Sunday's round of destructive tornadoes ripped through town. The Dallas Morning News looks into the process.
We’ve talked to over 60 women about anxiety. Here’s what they told us.
