We just want to say THANK YOU for all your help and support at home! We are so very thankful for all of you!

Winter Party Donations

In preparation for our Winter Party on Tuesday, December 22nd, we are looking for donations of prizes that we can use for BINGO. The kids really loved the bingo games (and prizes) we played for our fall party! All prizes will need to be at school by Friday, December 18th (at the latest) to let them sit a few days before we distribute them. If you have any questions, please let your child’s classroom teacher know. Thanks for considering!

Reading/Language Workshop

Readers are learning how context clues can help them to understand the meanings of new words. We have been having fun being word detectives, and will continue to find new words in literature to discover new meanings and increase our vocabulary! Our unit for Language workshop is Inquiry, and students are learning about people who have seen a problem in our world, and created an invention to solve the problem to make the world a better place. This week, we are reading about Thomas Edison. Imagine a world without light bulbs! Next week, we will be learning about Alexander Graham Bell and his contributions to the world.

Writing Workshop

In writing we wrapped up our work on the informational writing unit. This unit focused on writing a five paragraph essay on a topic each student chose. They researched and wrote a five paragraph essay that was then put into the “Rose Glen Newsbrief” comic strip and a video template created by students and published! Ask your child to share their writing and video with you!! We are now working on our persuasive essay book reviews. Students will be creating a book review, book jackets, and a video advertisement of their favorite Literature Discussion Book!!

Math Workshop

Mathematicians are currently working on mastering multi-digit multiplication with either the area model or partial products strategies. Both strategies are efficient and it is up to the individual student as to which strategy they prefer. Next week, we will be modeling different division strategies. We will have a math check in the last week prior to our holiday break. Mathematicians should expect an assessment on multiplication and division after the holiday break.
Big picture

Social Studies

We have wrapped up our unit on Continents and Oceans and Map Scale. We are now moving into Latitude and Longitude and finding locations on a map. Our assessment will be before Winter Break - more information on that will be coming out next week.

Virtual Hour of Code

On Wednesday, students had an opportunity to participate in the Virtual Hour of Code. Ask your child about what they all learned in this coding opportunity.
