3RD GRADE
Hello 3rd grade reading family,
This week has been a busy week for us. We have secured our passports and began traveling around the world. Our first stop was Mexico. We learned about Las Posadas, and all the amazing traditions that come with it. Our next stop was India. Their most important holiday of the year is Diwali. Our second to last stop was traveling back to the United States to learn more about some traditions we might also celebrate. Our very last stop was Australia. Did you know that Santa comes in on a surfboard? We thought that was pretty cool.
On Wednesday and Thursday we had our first semester STAAR practice test. We do this test at the end of the first semester to see where your child is at, and what I need to do to get them ready for the real STAAR in April. We have not received the scores yet. Students have also spent a lot of time getting ready for our Christmas Program on Thursday, December 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the carpeted gym. Please be sure to have your child there by 6:15 p.m.
Christmas is right around the corner. We will have school next Monday, December 19th and Tuesday, December 20th. We will have our annual Christmas party on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye out for a note that will be sent home in the upcoming days.
Thank you for all you do and have a great long break!

Math/Science
In math we are learning about financial literacy. We are counting groups of dollars and coins, and how you can earn more money at your job with more training and experience in that job.
In science we are learning about how soil is form by weathering of rocks and decomposed plants and animals.
Please make sure your child practices their math facts each night. Math fact test will be on Friday.
Just a reminder: We will have school on Monday!
Our Christmas party is on Tuesday the 20th at 3:30pm. Parents may attend the party.
4TH GRADE
4th & 5th Grade Math
-We have learned to find equivalent fractions, simplify fractions, add and subtract fractions, but we are still not done with fractions. After Christmas break, we will multiply and divide fractions. Fractions are my 4th and 5th graders nightmare that does not end.
-Well, for 4th grade it will end because they do not have to multiply or divide fractions. Fourth grade will go on to graphs. They will learn to read, organize, and create different kinds of graphs such as dot plots, stem-and-leaf plot, and a frequency table.
-Please have your student practice multiplication math facts every night for 10 to 20 minutes. It will make a world of difference.
-I do want to wish you and your family a Verry Merry Christmas. I pray you have a safe, and relaxing time. I hope you enjoy your time with your family and friends and get ready for the New Year.
Thank you for your support, Stacy Gamez
Cuarto grado pasará a gráficos.
