Back to School Back to School
School officially began on August 16th this year, which means Ag classes are back and better than ever! Breckenridge FFA kicked off the school year with a fantastic booth at meet the bucks. There were 90 FFA members in attendance, who checked in at the booth and were awarded 1 activity point. FFA members also played an active role in the junior rodeo on Saturday, where they earned 5 activity points. The freshman PAFNR (principles of agriculture, food, and natural resources) classes went around school grounds with chalk writing our school motto and the FFA motto. The school motto this year is “Together is Better”. All regular participants in LDE’s (Leadership Development Events) are ecstatic for the return of competition season. In conclusion, Ag classes are in full swing, and all BHS FFA members are ecstatic for an awesome, successful year.

BHS FFA Attends 90th Annual Texas State FFA Convention
From July 9th through July 13th, FFA members from the Breckenridge FFA chapter ventured out to the beautiful city of Fort Worth along with over 12,000 FFA members from across the state. It was there that they attended the 90th annual Texas FFA State convention.
Breckenridge FFA chapter members attended general sessions where they heard speeches from numerous speakers, and also had exciting adventures outside of the convention center such as visiting the Fort Worth stockyards. Mrs. Shortes and Mr. Chase worked tirelessly not only to advise the students throughout their experience in Fort Worth, but also to ensure the students were having a good time and enjoying themselves.
Eight students from the Breckenridge FFA chapter were recognized for receiving their Lonestar degree. The Lonestar degree recipients were recognized in front of over 12,000 of their fellow FFA members. The Lonestar recipients were: Braden Campbell, Kyler Knight, Halle Harvick, Madi Warren, Jimmy McKay, Griffin Flournoy, Zach Smith, and Braxton Post. Seven of the recipients were in attendance at the session to accept their award. They were presented this award because they showed integrity and dedication through their hard work over the years of their membership in the Texas FFA.
Another member of the Breckenridge FFA chapter was recognized for her hard work and dedication to ensuring that the convention ran smoothly for the entire duration. This student started early every morning and worked all day long to serve Texas FFA members. This member was none other than Halle Harvick. She served as a Texas FFA ambassador where she worked behind the scenes to provide an amazing experience for all attendees. Christopher Otts, recently elected Pecan Valley District Vice President, served on the Courtesy Corps.
Along with attending general sessions the convention center also had several amazing booths inside the exhibit hall. During free time FFA members could browse Texas FFA merchandise, look at trendy clothing, or even visit booths ran by colleges across Texas that offer degrees in agriculture.
In conclusion, the 90th Annual Texas FFA State Convention was not only a fun experience for Texas FFA members, but also an educational experience. From listening to inspirational speeches to learning about what makes the FFA a great organization, members had the opportunity to appreciate this membership they’ve been given.
