Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
The temperatures are dropping and of course, the weather forecasters continue to use our students’ favorite words – frozen precipitation. With that said, our school receives directions from Gwinnett County Public Schools when it comes to determining how the weather might impact our operations. I wanted to make you aware of a few possibilities that we may encounter as we deal with Georgia’s unpredictable weather today and in the future:
- Weather that results in an actual closing of school for a “Snow Day” will be made up using one of the calendar days already identified in our GCPS Calendar. For the 2018-2019 school year, the inclement make up days are: February 15th and March 29th. On an actual school closure day, students would not attend school, they would not be required to complete classwork at home, but they would be expected to attend school on the makeup day(s) identified.
- Should the county decide to close school and hold a Digital Learning Day, students will log in to their eCLASS course pages and spend time during the day completing the assignments provided by all of their core academic and connections teachers. If students/parents have difficulty or inability to access eCLASS at home, please know that we will work with you to ensure that all assignments are completed.
- If early morning weather is questionable and school is delayed, we will do our best to communicate through our county School Messenger system, and we will update our school’s webpage. Please remember if a delay is put into place, you will also hear about it on the local news stations, their websites, and always, the GCPS website. When a delay is in place, we will not serve breakfast as our students will arrive at school close to our actual lunch time schedule. We will run a condensed schedule that will allow students to attend all academic classes and one connection class.
- If students are in school and GCPS makes the decision to close school early, we ask that you allow us to run school in a normal fashion and have all students go home their regular way (i.e. bus or car rider). In the event of an early release, it is imperative that we are able to get buses onto our campus in the bus lanes at the front of the school. Having additional cars on our campus blocking the front bus lanes would make a quick dismissal very difficult for us.
Today is a Digital Learning Day. So please have your students log in to their teachers’ course pages. Teachers should have assignments posted by 10 a.m. Stay tuned and watch the news for what may happen if there is ice tomorrow morning. Don’t forget--Gwinnett County Public Schools has a very informative website, and information regarding weather-related decisions is posted quickly to inform the public.
Thank you for your support! Stay warm and safe!!
