November Core Value
Responsibility is doing your share, accepting what is required and carrying out the task to the best of your ability and with integrity and taking ownership over our behavior and actions. Everyone doing their part is what a community is all about. People are able to achieve more when they possess and practice strong responsibility skills. We are learning to understand what is in our control and what is out of our control.

Hello Woodbury Families!
October came and left in a hurry! We had so many great discussions about having a growth mindset. We are shifting our focus in November to responsibility. Our district defines responsibility as being dependable, keeping promises, and honoring your commitments. Woodbury has always included responsibility as part of our Woodbury Way so it is cool to see the whole district rally behind this. One of my favorite books is called “What If Everybody Did That?”. The link will direct you to a read aloud on YouTube if you would like to listen to this story as a family.
Part of being a responsible learner is being in school and being prepared to learn. Responsible students do what's expected of them and accept the consequences of their choices. I encourage you to have conversations with your student about ways they can be responsible at school (coming to school every day, keeping their space clean, returning library books, pushing in their chairs, etc). All of these things make Woodbury and our community a safe and great place to be. This is also a great time to talk about how to be responsible at home (cleaning up after themselves, putting toys away, making their bed in the morning).
After we complete our first unit in Second Step (growth mindset and goal setting), we will move on to unit two which focuses heavily on emotion identification and emotion management. I love talking about this topic! We will discuss different coping strategies to use to shift from the red or blue zone back to calm and in the green zone.
