Jag E-News
Sartartia Middle School 10.25.20
Hey Jags,
Fall is here and we are definitely settling into our new normal. It is the 11th week of school and we are finding our "groove" now! Football games have started and it has been awesome to have some cooler weather. We continue to implement our health and safety protocols with vigilance and fidelity at school, and our students are responding as we expect them to. It takes everyone doing his/her part to make it work!
Thank you to everyone that got out to support SMS at our Baskin Robbins Spirit Night. Don't forget that this is the last week to participate in the Spirit Month with BFW Pizza Co. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to our PTO and will go right back to our students and campus. We are thankful for ongoing partnerships with restaurants and business like our PTO Platinum Sponsors, Indigo Orthodontics, Sports Doc Shah, and Renew Laser & Skin.
Be sure to check out the information below regarding picture day sign-up for online students, a final opportunity to buy your yearbook for $45, and important updates regarding athletic events and tickets. Don't forget that this week is a short week as Friday, October 30th is a school holiday. We are excited to participate in Red Ribbon Week and see our online and face to face students dress up each day to join the fight against drugs and show that we are drug free. Be happy. Be brave. Be drug free.
Have a great week Jags!

STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Lincoln McCaleb is a 6th grader at Sartartia and he is an excellent participant and contributor to class discussions. His teachers say that he speaks up and always asks relevant questions. We often see his zest for interacting and collaborating with his peers as he is always one of the first to reach out and help others. Lincoln regularly demonstrates what it means to be a collaborative and compassionate citizen.
SARTARTIA MIDDLE SCHOOL RELAUNCH
Connecting to BYOD Network
We are finding that some students that bring a device (BYOD) to school are unable to connect to the district’s BYOD network (FBISD_BYOD). While there are various reasons for this problem, one of the prominent issues is the fact that some students have “Restricted Access” (RA). RA access is granted when a parent decides to not allow “Full Access” to district resources for their student and that student will NOT have access to district’s BYOD network. We know that some parents have inadvertently selected this option at the start of school (part of online registration process) while others may have intentionally selected this option however may want to change it at this point. A job aid was sent to parents with information on how to make this change in Skyward, but you may also choose to call the campus for assistance.
Dress Code
Please review the FBISD Dress Code. This one-page document has been extracted from the 2020-21 FBISD Student/Parent Handbook. Students attending F2F must adhere to the dress code, and students online must be in dress code while on camera. Common issues and their resolutions are:
- Shorts, skirts, etc. that are too short -- hem must be no higher than 3" above knee
- Footwear - shoes must have a back for safety reasons in our stairwells. No flip-flops or sandals unless they have a back/heel covering
- Tears/Rips in pants - cannot reveal undergarments. If rips/tears are higher than 3" above the knee (like shorts and skirts), they must have an under-layer that extends to 3" above the knee
- Pajamas - no sleep wear except on designated spirit days (this includes slippers)
Ren360 Parent Score Report
Fort Bend ISD utilizes Renaissance Star 360 (Ren 360), a universal screener, to identify the strengths and growth areas of individual students. Ren 360 is a short, computer-adaptive assessment given to students in grades K-10 three times a year in September, January, and April. Over time, the data from the screener allows campus teachers, specialists, and administrators to examine the effectiveness of classroom instruction and to monitor student growth.
If your child has taken one or more of these assessments, you can now view the results in Skyward by accessing the Ren 360 Parent Score Report in Family Access. Below is a job aid that provides the steps to access this report. If you would prefer a paper copy of the score report, please notify the campus. Thank you for your continued support!
