A note from Principal Abrahamson

This will be the last newsletter of the year - happy (almost) summer to all our Carver Families! We are so proud of our students for successfully completing another year of learning. I hope you enjoy your time with your students this summer. Our students are amazing, talented, smart young people who have so much to offer. Fifth graders, you will be missed. We hope that you carry your Carver CARES with you as you journey into secondary school.

Please take time to thank the hardworking, dedicated, creative, and kid centered staff that we have here at Carver. This staff always put their heart and soul into everything they do for kids. The past 2 years have been tough. They have proven that they can do hard things, do not give up, and want what is best for students and families. It has been an honor serving next to them.

Thank you for your love and support over the past 7 years. I have accepted a job at our district center. I will miss being in a school building, but look forward to supporting education in a different way. I am truly grateful for each and every experience I have had here at Carver. Thank you for the memories!

Warm Regards,

Gena Abrahamson
Principal
Carver Elementary School

Why do we need a PTO?

A functional PTO is NOT a requirement for any given school. However, schools that have an active and engaged PTO enjoy a level of benefit that directly and positively impacts the students, teachers, and parents to a level that cannot be overstated. The PTO is able to work directly on the behalf of the students and teachers in a way that falls within applicable guidelines but without some of the higher levels of bureaucracy otherwise present.

The PTO can quickly address an unlimited number of needs by infusing either the input of funds or volunteer hours or any combination of the two. Working with our school leadership partners, yet with a level of autonomy, the PTO’s primary function is to enrich the educational experience of our children and their teachers and support staff.

The PTO is fully self-funded through a variety of income sources including, but not limited to; area community donations, private donations, and PTO sponsored or managed fund-raising activities! The PTO is a registered non-profit organization and 100% of PTO raised funds go to the benefit of the students and the operation of the PTO. ALL members involved with the PTO are fully volunteer.

Our PTO hosts the annual Carver Carnival, the two annual book fairs, and numerous enjoyable fund-raising activities. In addition, the PTO funds (full or partial) or assists in planning school assemblies, field trips, academic events, equipment and supply donations, and general school needs. The PTO directly donates money to all teachers for general use as well as donates to teacher appreciation efforts including direct supply donations, food provisions during conferences, and a number of teacher appreciation activities. The ideas and opportunities are literally boundless with our primary limiting factor being volunteers.

The PTO needs active parents! Currently we have two primary roles opening up for immediate placement. The President and Treasurer. In addition, the PTO is seeking a communications manager, and any number of open board roles if interest is present. Without these roles filled and active there will be no PTO. The existing funds will be exhausted or put into a general fund and the group will be dissolved. All inputs previously managed by the PTO will either fall off entirely or will need to be managed by school staff. It is my deepest hope and desire to see the PTO continue on beyond those of us leaving. The PTO genuinely makes a difference. Ask around! Ask your child’s teacher….. And help!

Volunteer today for one of the open roles (See the link below) and we will give you all the help and training you need to be successful.

On behalf of the PTO board, Thank you!!
