Microsoft Teams!
General: I will post important announcements here like reminders of tests or work due, if I am absent or other announcements. Make sure to check this daily.
Class meetings: This is where you will find the links to our meetings! Just click on the link to join our meeting. Make sure to read the weekly checklist for days we will meet.
Must do weekly checklist: This is where you will find what to do for the week. I will post the checklist on Mondays and all work is due on Fridays at midnight. The same checklist is also in Peak.
Office hours: There is a link to my office hours in this channel. If you want to meet with me after school, just email me or message me here and I will start a meeting with you. Office hours are from 2:45-3:15
Archived Videos: This is where you go to watch a class that you missed. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes will be recorded and you can find them here. It is important that you watch these if you are absent so you can get the practice you need to do well.
Attendance: If you missed any live Teams meetings for the week, you must watch the recorded video in the archived videos channel and fill out the week's form in the "Attendance" channel. Please read the "Attendance" section below for more information.
Grammar and Culture: This is where I will post videos and games from the class that give you extra practice in the language.
Syllabus: This syllabus will be saved here so you can refer back to it when you have questions on grading, class set-up etc...
Quizlet: This is where I will post the link to Quizlet. Quizlet is a website where you can study flashcards of the vocabulary and play games. They also make and app and I recommend you download it! Make sure to join my Quizlet so you can see all of the flashcards and play the games.
Duolingo: This is where I will post a link to Duolingo. Duolingo is a great way to get extra practice in Spanish. Make sure to click and join my class here. They also have an app but I have never figured out how to do assignments on the app, you have to do it on your laptop.
Peak/Fuel Ed and Power School!
Peak/Fuel Ed is where you can find all of your assignments. You should make sure to read the checklist in Teams for what you need to do for the week in Peak/Fuel Ed. USE THIS SITE:
peak.getfueled.com
We use a standard protocol for student usernames and passwords. Your student's username is his/her West Ada Student ID, not the EDUID. The password is the student's lower case first initial + UPPER case last initial + West Ada Student ID.
Example: My name is Charlie Brown and my West Ada ID number is 2001234567.
My username: 2001234567
My password: cB2001234567
Power School is where you will find your grades. The grade in Peak/Fuel Ed is most likely different and NOT CORRECT. Please check Power School for your grades. This is where I will take attendance as well. I will typically update grades on Fridays.
Daily Schedule
If you have me 3rd period
Live Teams meetings are:
11:35-12:20 Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
If you have me 4th period
Live Teams meetings are:
1:10-1:55 Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
We will have live Teams Meetings Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We will meet all together starting as soon as class time starts for about 45 minutes or so depending on need. It is very important that you attend as many live classes as possible. In order to learn a language, you need to hear it spoken and you need to speak it with others! We will have opportunities to talk together in Spanish in breakout rooms and talk with me. After the live session, students are expected to be working on the curriculum in Peak/Fuel Ed and get as much done as they can in the time allotted for the period.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I will either open a Teams meeting during the period for anyone to get extra help, or I might do conferences with certain students who need extra help. During our allotted period time, students should be working on their assignments in Peak/Fuel Ed that are on their checklist for the week. THESE ARE NOT FREE DAYS! Students should be following the schedule to continue to work on their assignments and reaching out to me for help.
Attendance
VSH (Virtual School House) has a flexible schedule where students can attend our live class sessions or watch the recorded sessions. If a student chooses to attend the recorded sessions, there will be an exit ticket for accountability reasons.
Attendance is based on two elements:
1) Attending live lessons or watching class recordings and completing the exit ticket
2) Work completion
Beginning with Quarter 2, VSH 6 – 12 teachers will be taking attendance daily and monitoring coursework completion. If a student is not in a live class, they will be marked absent. Students have seven (7) days to watch the recordings and complete the exit ticket along with the required assignments. If this is done within the seven (7) days, the absence will be changed to Present.
Great news -- VSH will have an attendance line for parents to call their students out for the day beginning on Monday, October 25, 2021. The attendance line number is: 208-855-4456.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
- Be on time and ready to go. Sometimes we will be in break-out rooms and this is difficult to do if you are not ready on time.
- Please try to limit distractions around you. It is important everyone is ready to learn and participate when class starts so we can accomplish all our tasks.
- Do not spam the meeting with a ton of gifs or other messages. Only post if it is appropriate and on topic.
- Use the reaction buttons to let your classmates know when you agree or disagree and give them a thumbs-up or a round of applause to encourage them.
- Pay attention and be ready to answer questions and participate!
- Please keep your mic muted unless you have ‘raised your hand’ or I have asked you to speak (just like you would in class). With a lot of students in one live session, it can become difficult to maintain an organized meeting otherwise.
- Turn off notifications from email and social media so you aren't distracted.
- When speaking, please stay on topic and be school appropriate.
- Be respectful! Just because we are behind a screen it does not mean that people are not vulnerable.
- Be prepared to turn on your camera! In order for us to get to know you, we need to see you. If you are able please turn on your camera whenever you are speaking.
Grades
- Grades are based on total points. Homework assignments are worth less (like 5 points) and tests are worth much more (25 or so).
- I will randomly choose assignments to put into Power School. I will defiantly put in all notes, Flipgrids, quizzes, tests and writing assignments, so make sure you do those. I will also put in a few of the other assignments in Peak that I think are necessary, so make sure to do all assignments. This encourages the student to get the practice needed to learn the language.
- Grades in Power School are your REAL grades. Ignore the grade in Peak/Fuel Ed. Please make sure to check Power School often to make sure you are turning everything in.
- You should do all assignments but only certain ones will be graded. In order to do well on the quizzes and tests, you should complete all assignments or as many as possible.
- We will take about 2 weeks to complete a unit. In each unit you will do homework assignments, take a quiz and test and do a writing and or Flipgrid/s.
- You CANNOT PASS THIS CLASS WITHOUT DOING THE FLIPGRIDS, TAKING THE TESTS AND DOING THE WRITING ASSIGNMENTS!
Tips on how to succeed in Spanish!
- Come to class if possible and/or watch the recorded lessons! I explain the grammar and give you the practice you need to get it down.
- You are completing a semester's worth of work in a quarter so expect to be doing work every day. You should be doing about 45 minutes of work Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and about 90 minutes of work Tuesdays and Thursdays (on days we don't have live meetings.
- Keep up with the work! Try to do a little bit each day and follow my schedule if possible. To learn another language, you need to study a little bit each day.
- USE YOUR NOTES WHEN DOING YOUR WORK AND DURING CLASS! You will take notes at the beginning of each unit. Make sure to use them when doing your work so that you are spelling words correctly. Peak will mark you as wrong if you spell words incorrectly and don't use your accents!
- Check your work before you turn in assignment to make sure you get it right.
- Email me if you have any questions about an assignment and I can go over it with you!
- Make sure to do all tests, quizzes Flipgrids and writing assignments as those are worth the most points.
- If you have extra time, you can always study the Quizlets I post to help you memorize the vocabulary!
Late Work
EMAIL ME WHEN YOU TURN IN LATE WORK SO I KNOW TO CHECK IT!!!!
