OLM Parent Bulletin
Wednesday, December 5th, 2018
"Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Reflection:
Reflect on the gifts of the Holy Spirit – Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety, and Fear of the Lord – and how you use them in your daily life to turn your heart towards God in preparation for His second coming.
Pray:
Lord, I will not be afraid to turn towards you always, keeping my heart awake and focused on knowing you, loving you, and serving you, so that I may stand tall before you when redemption is at hand.

Confirmation Good News Mass
Message from Sr. Rosabel, OLM Director of Religious Education
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please be reminded that this coming Sunday, December 9 at 10:30 AM is our CONFIRMATION GOOD NEWS MASS. Parents, Sponsors and Confirmandi are expected to attend the mass. Please be guided by our schedule below.
10:30 AM Mass – Confirmation Good News Mass
Confirmandi and Sponsors are to be seated on the reserved pews near the sanctuary for the Confirmation Good News Rite. Please do take note that during the Rite, candidates and sponsors will be asked to walk to the altar. This will take place after the homily. The priest will give the Bible to the Sponsor, and the sponsor in turn should give the Bible to the candidate.
11: 40 – Spiritual Conference on Good News (Confirmandi and Sponsors only)
12: 30 – Fellowship/Lunch (This is a lunch gathering/fellowship . Please bring something to share and may God reward your generosity).
Please also plan to come to the Church 10 minutes earlier so we can dispose ourselves to worship and help our teens get ready for the Rite of Good News.
St. Nicholas Day, Thursday, December 6th
The teachers help the kids learn about Father Christmas, St. Nicholas, a man of faith who lived his life in devotion of Jesus. It is a special festivity early in the waiting weeks of Advent that teaches more about the gift of giving and inspires compassion and charity and how the tradition of the true Santa Claus came about. So remind your children to wear clean socks that day as they do spend sometime in the classroom with no shoes on. Happy St. Nicholas Day one and all!

Christmas Play Tickets
The following announcement went out to parents last week:
Our Christmas Play is happening in no time at all! The show, "Christmas Express," features our talented students, K - 8, as they sing, dance, and share an important message to all of us in the season of Advent. Directed by Mrs. D'Cunha and Ms. Cynthia, it happens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14th, at the OLM Church.
In our effort to provide all parents/guardians a fair chance at having seats for the performance, we will once again follow the admission/ticketing procedures as we had the previous couple of years. Please take note of the following:
All families will be assured of two tickets (reserved seats) upon request. Other family members may line up for extra tickets the night of the show.
From 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5th till 8:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7th, parents need to send an email to tickets@olmbulldogs.com , indicating the name of your oldest child enrolled at OLM this year and his / her room number on the subject line. The following is an example:
Subject: Krista Mananquil (8B)
Please do not write anything in the body of the email.
Requests received before 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5th, or after 8:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7th, will not be honored.
We only need ONE request email per family. Duplicate requests - more than one request email from a family - will be moved at the end of the request list.
Please note that tickets will be assigned to parents in the order the emails are received.
For those families who may not have email access, the school will open our phone lines for ticket requests from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. ONLY on Wednesday, December 5th. A call made after an email is sent will be considered a DUPLICATE request.
Tickets will be given to the oldest children before dismissal on Thursday, December 13th. If you need to make alternative arrangements for ticket pick-up, please do let the office know no later than 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 10th.
On the night of the performance, please make sure that you keep your tickets. Our ushers will be checking to make sure that everyone is seated on the assigned pews.
Please note that EACH FAMILY WILL ONLY GET TWO RESERVED TICKETS. For those who miss the ticket request window and for other family members wanting to watch the show, there will be extra tickets available at the door starting at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Opportunity for our 8th Graders from Bay Scholars
Good Afternoon,
We are excited to begin the annual Bay Scholars scholarship application process! We are now accepting applications for students who will be entering high school in the Fall of 2019. Bay Scholars has partnered with 14 Catholic high schools in the Bay Area, each of whom, within their unique community, is dedicated to holistically preparing students for four-year colleges and universities. The students who benefit from attending our partner schools are prepared not just for the academic journey through college, but for the personal journey of growth in the world at large.
In San Francisco, our participating high schools are:
Archbishop Riordan High School
ICA Cristo Rey
Mercy High School (SF)
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory
In the East Bay, we provide scholarships at
Bishop O’Dowd High School (Oakland)
Moreau Catholic High School (Hayward)
Salesian College Preparatory (Richmond)
St. Mary’s College High School (Berkeley)
St. Joseph Notre Dame High School (Alameda)
De La Salle High School (Concord)
Carondelet High School (Concord)
In San Mateo and Santa Clara counties we have partnered with:
Junipero Serra High School (San Mateo)
Mercy High School (Burlingame)
Saint Francis High School (Mountain View)
We seek out young scholars who shine academically, engage actively in society and demonstrate outstanding promise and a willingness to give back to their communities. Our 4-year $10,00 scholarship (for incoming Scholars) makes college-prep high school education a reality for our scholars. Our scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, financial eligibility, and recommendations from principals like yourself.
(Please note: for ICA Cristo Rey, the scholarship amount is $6,000 over four years at $1,500 per year. For the rest of the participating high schools, the scholarship amount is $2,500 per year. Scholarships are renewable annually for all four years of high school if the family remains financially eligible.)
Attached is an updated copy of the (1) Scholarship Application Form and (2) Principal Recommendation Form. Please review both so you are aware of the application procedures. Both forms are also available to be downloaded from our website: www.bayscholars.org. Please note, we also require the families to submit their tax returns or other income verification documents.
We need your help in sending us deserving applicants for our scholarship program. Please distribute the application and recommendation forms to students who might be good candidates for the program (or direct them to our website to obtain the forms there).
All of the application materials are due back to Bay Scholars by Monday, February 4, 2019. Please note we do not accept faxed copies of the forms. The families will be notified after March 15, 2019 if the student has been selected as a Bay Scholar. An acceptance form will be mailed to the scholarship recipient’s family. The families must return the scholarship acceptance form back to us by Friday, April 12, 2019 in order to officially accept the scholarship.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Bay Scholars is grateful for your participation - we look forward to working together again this year.
