What do the 4-H ribbon colors mean?
In 4-H, we use the Danish System of recognition to recognize and reward young people for their efforts and projects. This system uses colors to signify different award levels.
Purple = Superior
A purple is awarded to entries that meet and far exceed the average standards established for that particular class. The exhibit or workmanship is outstanding with minimal flaws.
Blue = Excellent
A blue is awarded to entries that exceed the average standard. The exhibit and workmanship meet the standards of the purple ribbon but have a few flaws.
Red = Good
A red is awarded to entries that meet or are slightly below the average standard established for that class. The exhibit and workmanship meet expectations but have multiple flaws.
White = Fair
White is awarded to entries that do not meet the average standard. The level of accomplishment is less than expected. Poor workmanship or little thought is given to the exhibit.
State 4-H Rodeo 2023
The 4-H horse program had announced and planned to hold our 2023 State 4-H Rodeo on October 7th, 2023, and an open youth rodeo on October 8th, 2023, in partnership with the UNL rodeo team. This year we have had some unavoidable conflicts with the scheduling of the 4-H Rodeo and with the changes in leadership within the UNL Rodeo team, we do not have the facilities, date, and cattle to host the State 4-H Rodeo for this October. Due to all of these circumstances the State 4-H Rodeo will be cancelled for 2023, with the plan to continue the State 4-H Rodeo in partnership with the UNL Rodeo Team in 2024 as they take on new leadership in their organization and we have more time to plan.
