Homecoming Edition
In preparation for our Scarlet Homecoming, students and staff gathered on Friday, September 28th to find out more about the upcoming activities and excitement awaiting them during the week of Homecoming (October 8-12). In addition, our Homecoming escorts searched the crowd for their queen candidates and our button design winner received her prize. Here’s the scoop on what you and your students need to know about Homecoming 2018.

Homecoming is a week full of fun, tradition, and excitement at West. It is an awesome opportunity for us to come together as a school community and celebrate both the past and present. Here are the week's events:
Monday: Dodgeball Tournament This amazing event is sponsored by our Link Crew.
Get your teams of 5 together and register for the Dodgeball Tournament taking place Monday, October 8 @ 6:30pm. Registration forms are outside 216 (Ms. Peterson's room). Return form and $10 per team to Ms. Peterson by Friday, October 5. The winning team gets to battle the teachers on Homecoming day.
Tuesday: Volleyball vs. Northfield 7:00 pm
Thursday: Hall of Fame Banquet
The Hall of Fame Banquet will be held at the Wow Zone at 5:30 pm on October 11. The inductees this year are:

Department Spotlight
Our Student Support Team is located in the Counseling Center in the main office. Our team includes our three counselors, school social worker, school psychologist, and a chemical health counselor. MAPS Family Academy
Register to attend Mankato Area Public Schools' Family Academy held September 24 at Lincoln Community Center, 110 Fulton Street. These no cost workshops provide tips, tools and strategies to help children be successful.
5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. sessions
ACT test and college preparation
Families will learn more about the ACT and what no cost resources are available to help students prepare for this important test.
Difference between sadness and depression
What is the difference between sadness and depression and when should there be concern?
Perfectionism
Causes and effects of perfectionism and its impacts on students in and out of school will be reviewed.
6:40 p.m. to 7:40 p.m. sessions
Technology resources for parents/guardians
Learn information about apps and extensions approved for student devices, how to use Infinite Campus and preview the new Mankato Area Public Schools' website.
Helping students cope with stress
Learn tools and strategies to help manage stress and anxiety students face.
Registration is required because space is limited. Refreshments and childcare for those ages 4 to 12 will be provided.

Pack the Stands
The Mankato community will be coming together this Saturday at Pack the Stands! Saturday will be a day filled with East/West soccer. Boys JV will kick it off at 11:00 a.m. Boys Varsity and Girls JV play at 1:00, while Girls Varsity will close out the day with their game beginning at 3:00 p.m. This is a fantastic Mankato Soccer community event!
