Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
One of my favorite parts of my job is interacting with students. This week I was blessed to meet with our Incoming 9th graders as we visited 91 and BPMS to complete the forecasting process. It was so exciting to hear their hopes and dreams about high school. I also had the opportunity to guest teach in a few English classes. Interacting with students in a different way, in the role of instructor, gives me the chance to stay connected to the classroom and build relationships with students.
Congratulations to our choir students who brought home a league championship this week. The are so talented. Please check out this recording of their amazing performance. Our Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) also competed at their state convention. Canby Chapter earned the honor of Gold Champion Chapter and was the 3rd place Sweepstakes winner for overall competitive performance. 22 students have qualified to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia this summer, meaning that they earned a top 4 finish in their event. Please see individual results below.
This past week, we had a well attended College Night and a successful football signing event. Spring sports are in full swing, and we hope that the weather continues to improve. Our state champions dance team was honored at the Canby Rotary Meeting. We are looking forward to the Spring Fling dance Saturday, sponsored by MEChA.
There are so many opportunities to get involved and engaged in the high school experience. We encourage students to explore the options available.
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Important Information
Health Curriculum Adoption Parent Input Opportunity
The Canby School District will host a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, April 19 from 6-7 p.m. in English and 7-8 p.m. in Spanish. The goal is to have 12-15 parents answer some questions and provide input about health education and instruction in Canby. We will use this information to support our planning for our Health Curriculum adoption and Parent Open House on April 26. If you are interested, please complete this Google Form. If we have great interest, we will choose participants by lottery to create a small enough group for our input session.
Water Testing
Canby School District has completed its first cycle of lead and copper water testing, and all fixtures came in under the state requirement of 15 parts per million. We collected samples from Ackerman, the district office and maintenance shop, Baker Prairie Middle School, and Canby High School. All fixtures were tested as long as a student could cup their hands under it to collect water.
Those interested can view the reports here: HASS Healthy and Safe School Reports.
Testing will take place in the 2023-2024 year for the remaining schools: Carus, Eccles, Knight, Lee, Ninety-One, and Trost.
For questions, please reach out to Shawna Grant, District Operation Specialists with Facilities, at sgrant@canby.k12.or.us or 503-266-0018 xt. 3920.
Library Book Review
The Canby School District continues to offer opportunities for community members to review library books that are up for consideration to be added into circulation. Books will be displayed on Monday, April 10 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Ackerman Library. To find a list of the titles for review and our review template, you can visit our CSD library page.

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
Information for Seniors
The Senior Schedule is linked on the “Graduation Information” page. Please check back often for updates. Again, seniors need to watch their emails for graduation information and updates. If you have additional questions not found in the information pages, please contact Jamie Netter @ jamie.netter@canby.k12.or.us or 503.263.7200 Ext 5302.
