I think this is important to the article because, it is foreshadowing what the article will be about and it is also telling us what the public thinks about our generation.
Teens are "satisfied with their personal ethics." this quote is startling because when you look at the way the teens are perceived in this article is not something that most people would be proud of.
LIE
In the article the author includes that 42% of American teens have lied to save money. 83% have lied to their parents before about something significant. 26% admitted that they even lied on the survey.
CHEAT
In the classroom 64% of teens have cheated on at least one test. 38% had cheated two or more times during the past year.
STEAL
30% of teens in American teens surveyed have stole from a store within the past year. Although most people think that girls are significantly less likely to steal than boys, they are not are almost the same percentage. 35% of the people that has stole where boys and 26% of people that have stole where boys.
