A Note form Our Kettering PTA 2021/22 President
Dear Kettering Families,
Thank you for your tireless support of your child(ren) at Kettering. As my time as PTA President winds down, I have thought back as to why I have volunteered my time as President. I reflect and I am filled with gratitude. I concluded: I volunteered because my kids enjoyed having me involved with the school, because I enjoyed working with students and our school community, and because I wanted to make a difference. I am passing the baton to next year's President, Rose Amadeus, with great confidence and look forward to what next year will bring.
Here are just some of the wonderful things PTA provided this year:
- Ground Education: School-wide program that brings thinking, exploring and learning in outdoor/nature spaces.
- STEM: Science/Technology/Engineering/Math Program
- Field Trips: LB Aquarium, Mission San Juan Capistrano, to name a few
- Meet the Masters: School-wide art history program
- Carnival
- Trunk to Trunk
- Sweetheart Dance
- Teacher Enrichment
- Tutoring/Books/Software
- Movie Night
- Running Club
- Fit Fest
- Kids Around the World: Multi-cultural program
We believe that as a group, we can provide more for our children than any of us can provide individually. Your voice and support make this possible. We are in need of some new faces to help drive the programs at our school and we look forward to having you join our PTA.
So we can continue to support our Kettering kids in the best way possible, we are asking all of our Kettering families to please answer a quick survey:

Distrito Escolar Unificado de Long Beach
Kettering parents,
Last week began with the devastating sadness of a terrible mass shooting in Texas; and for all of us, it was another moment to reflect on the safety of our daily lives, in the community, at home, and in our schools. I want you to know that safety is at the forefront of our Kettering elementary school. We have comprehensive emergency procedures in place, and we practice a variety of safety drills on a monthly basis. On a daily basis during our instructional time, we have our gates locked and it is expected that families utilize our front door security system to enter. As usual, we encourage anyone who sees or hears anything suspicious to say something to a trusted adult.
In the meantime, some of you may have questions about how to talk to children about Tuesday's shooting and other recent tragedies across our nation and our world. Here are some resources to consider:
How to Talk to Kids About Violence, Crime and War (from Common Sense Media)
Helping Children Cope with Frightening News (from the Child Mind Institute)
We hope that some of the above resources may be helpful as we all process this tragedy, and we thank you for your continued support in helping to keep our students and staff safe.
A Few Announcements for Our Kettering Families
Kettering Parents,
This is a reminder that for safety reasons, we ask that all parents are prepared to show ID when checking a student out early. Additionally, students cannot be released to any adult that is not listed on a student's emergency card. Finally, all families should ensure that their emergency contact numbers: phone, email, and address are correct within the ParentVue system.
CDC Parents,
Please note that the CDC gate will be closed during instructional hours, any late drop-offs will need to go through our main office.
