April 11, 2016 URL Shortener Extension

My web browser of choice is Google Chrome. I love the omnibox for searching, the easy bookmarking that syncs across devices, and the apps and extensions you can use to power-up and customize your browser.

One of the extensions I use most often is the URL shortener. It instantly creates a URL shortener and QR code in one click. No more copying and pasting your long URL in more than one tool. Watch the video below to see just how easy it is to use.

Reasons I prefer the URL Shortener extension:

1. It creates a URL Shortener in one click.

2. It creates a QR Code in one click.

3. You can track the number of people who have accessed the site via your shortened URL/QR code.

App of the Week - Inigma

QR (Quick Response) Code is a commonly used way to access information online. First created in the 1990s to track parts in Japanese auto factories, QR codes are popping up everywhere. We see them in advertising, on products, and in classrooms. Unlike a library bar code which is only read right/left, this code is a 2 dimensional code read right/left and up/down. This feature allows it to hold more information.

There are quite a few QR Code readers out there. By far my favorite is Inigma. It reads very dense code and works much better than other code readers I have tried. It also has a history option to keep up with what codes you have already scanned and a favorites option to bookmark frequently scanned codes.
