Spring 2021
A Year Like No Other
Since March of 2020 the face of education has never been the same. Resiliency has been the name of the game when it has come to adapting to the barriers education has faced due to Covid. Activities that embody the Duncan High School experience have been effectively halted. Internships (jobsite), homecoming, pep rallies, prom, amongst numerous other engagements has changed the face of the high school experience. Our students have faced numerous challenges adapting to these new norms. After spring break we hope to begin the recovery process of this disruption in education by providing in person instruction starting with a hybrid schedule. Prioritizing the recovery of hands on skills recovery will be paramount during that time. At the time of this newsletter we have fifty one school days left in the year. Hopefully this path to normalcy will occur without further disruptions and the students can obtain the education they deserve.
Heavy Truck Students Take Home All Medals For Skills USA Regionals
Despite the pandemic Duncan heavy truck students still prepared and participated in their Skills USA regional competition. They were each required to submit a video where they conducted a pre-trip inspection, completed a multiple choice ASE style exam and submitted a resume. Daniel C. (Senior) received a gold medal, Yair J. (Senior) received a silver medal, and Tania V. (Sophomore) received a bronze medal. They will all advance to the state competition which will take place in April.

Senior Targeted In Person Instruction
Starting March 8th, heavy truck seniors have had the opportunity to receive targeted supports for their classes every monday. This has given them the opportunity to recover some of the skills they have missed out on throughout the year. Since we have started these sessions students have participated in electrical repair and preventative maintenance procedures. These hands on sessions were much needed!
