MARINER MEMO
March 2019
Message from the Principal
Greetings Mariner Families,
Last week was our first official full week in the new building and I still can’t stop smiling! We are so grateful to all of you for supporting this project; from supporting the bond to providing input on the design of the new school; this would not have been possible without the help and support of our community. Thank you!
This month kicks off registration for 2019-2020! All of our material and information can be found online under our counseling page:
https://sehome.bellinghamschools.org/students/counseling/
Please work with your child to ensure that they select classes that interest them, fuel their passion, and are balanced. Having a balanced academic schedule helps maintain a healthy lifestyle. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s counselor.
Thank you for trusting us with your children, they are a gift and make our work fulfilling.
With much gratitude,
Michelle
Course Registration for 2019-2020
Current 9th-11th grade students have been introduced to the registration materials for choosing classes for the 2019-2020 school year. Students have been asked to view the "how-to" registration video located on our Counseling Web Page:
http://sehome.bellinghamschools.org/students/counseling/. In addition to this video, students and families will be able to find the Course Catalog for 2019-2020. To help with selecting courses, students are encouraged to utilize the "Scheduling Worksheets" under the "Registration" link on the counseling page.
During the next few weeks, counselors will be meeting with students to review their course choices and help provide guidance for entering their requests online via our Skyward Student Access. Online course requests are due by Friday, March 15 at 3:30 PM. After that, students will need to see their counselor to add course requests or make any changes. If students have any questions about registering for classes, they may stop by the Counseling Office in Room 233A or email their counselor.
YEARBOOKS

Annual Spring State Assessments
A reminder that some high school students will be taking state assessments this spring to measure English language arts (ELA), mathematics, and science proficiency. The ELA and Math assessments are part of the state graduation requirements. The WCAS Science test is recommended.
- Smarter Balanced ELA and Math testing for students in grades 11 and 12 who have not yet met standard will occur between March 11 and 22.
- Smarter Balanced ELA testing for students in grade 10 will occur April 11 through 24.
- Smarter Balanced Math testing for students in grade 10 will occur May 21 through 31.
- WCAS Science testing for students in grade 11 will occur May 28 through 31.
- Students should confirm test times and locations with their English 201 teacher, Math teacher, Physics teacher, and/or Mr. Atkins.
As with any day of important learning, a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast are an essential part of every school day. We recommend parents and guardians talk to their child about their learning and school day and keep things in perspective (and not overemphasize the test).
