Principals Desk
This week has been another great week, thank you to all the staff and support at Lincoln. We had all students in grades 1-5 take the iReady diagnostic assessment. This is our baseline data for our year, and as a school and grade level teams, we use this information to identify instructional needs for each student. In addition, letters are being sent home today for students who qualify for jumpstart this is based on last spring's data, a small group of students will work with our reading specialist, Amy Kappele, or our math specialist Adrianne Kelly during the next 4 weeks to begin an intensive intervention. We will then use our current data to determine students' needs for our first full intervention cycle.
Today was our first PTO meeting, at this time our meetings will take place off-site. I have included our PTO newsletter, upcoming ice cream social, and also a flyer for our current spirit wear sale.
This upcoming Wednesday, our school will begin a new learning experience called Town Halls. This is an intentional multi-age grouping and smaller groupings to promote our schoolwide focus on building belonging. These events will take place monthly, I look forward to participating and sharing the experiences with all of our school. We also had our Watch DOGS information meeting this past Wednesday.
FROM THE OFFICE:
Welcome back! Here are a few reminders for all our families as we start off the school year:
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES:
Arrival: Doors to the building open at 7:50 a.m. (there is no supervision prior to this time). Students are expected to be in their seats and ready to learn by 8:00 a.m. when the bell rings. For any student that arrives after 8:00 a.m., please remind them to stop in the office to check in with Mrs. York and turn in their lunch order if needed.
Dismissal: We have a staggered dismissal system at Lincoln. We first start by dismissing bussers, then walkers and car riders are last. Our kindergarteners will exit out of their classroom door and first graders will exit out of the front of the school. Car riders will exit through the north door of the building where the car pick-up line is at.
NOTE: - If you need to make a change to your child's dismissal plans, please notify the office by 2:00 p.m. so we can communicate that change to the staff.
ALSO: Just a reminder that no dogs are allowed on school property.
ATTENDANCE - It is recommended that you call the attendance line by 7:30 a.m. each day that your child will be absent. Our attendance hotline is available 24/7 for your convenience at 331.228.2500. Please leave a detailed message if your child is not feeling well including any symptoms they may have, and we will pass that information along to our nurse.
LOST AND FOUND - Please remember to label all your children's belongings. This includes jackets, water bottles, shoes, lunch boxes, etc. This is very helpful when something gets lost and is either brought to the office or the lost and found. If something is labeled, we are then able to return it to your student right away. You would be surprised throughout the year how many coats, gloves, jackets are left in the lost and found box in our school and are unclaimed.
LUNCHES - Lincoln does allow parents to drop off a special lunch at school only if it is their child's birthday (or half-birthday for summer birthdays). Please refrain from delivering a lunch throughout the rest of the year. Also if you can notify the office that would be great.
ENTRANCE TO THE BUILDING AFTER SCHOOL IS OUT - We would like to remind parents that if a child leaves something behind in their classroom after they leave for the day, we are asking that they only return to the building to get those items if they are needed for that night or if it's an emergency. A lunchbox or water bottle can be retrieved the next day they return to school. Also, students will only be allowed to go to their classrooms if their teachers are still in their room as we cannot allow them to wander the halls unsupervised. Thank you for your understanding.
PICTURE DAY IS COMING - September 1, 2022
All students brought home a flier last week with information about picture day. Color Portraits is again sponsoring a pre-pay picture program. Payment may be done online or by phone. See the attached flier below for more information.
Emergency Drills
You also received an email regarding our official lockdown drill which was supposed to take place this upcoming Tuesday, and that also been rescheduled for Sept. 9th, I will send another stand-alone email regarding that and the new opt-out information.
Open House--replacing former curriculum night
Our Open house will allow families to come in anytime between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 8th. Usually the self-guided tour and completion of the BINGO card will take about 20 minutes or so, again there will not be a formal presentation, staff will be in their classrooms, and common spaces and available to help in any way as you work through the BINGO activities. Upon completion please place your name and homeroom on the BINGO card, the class with the highest percentage of participation will win a popsicle party and we will also hold a drawing for 3 students to win a raffle.
