October 2015

A Great Start!

Thank you Peak View community for such a warm and gracious welcome! We're off to a busy start planning all of the fun activities for the 2015-2016 school year!

  • First day of school for Mrs. Hulvey and her son, Matthew

What We Are Learning....

5th grade: Singing, reading notes of the treble clef, playing tubanos and beginning an Orff unit. 5th graders will complete a writing-across-the-curriculum activity based on composer Carl Orff's "Danse Macabre."

4th grade: Students have been working hard to learn their treble clef notes in preparation of our upcoming start to RECORDERS!!! Fly swatters, bean bags, note buckets, etc... anything we can use to help us learn our notes! A reminder that recorder forms and money are due by October 9th. Thank you for your quick response!

3rd grade: Learning form and structure and having fun with scarves and ribbon streamers! Beginning our studyof instrument families with the Brass instruments. We were able to take a digital tour of the YAMAHA factory in Japan and watch a piece of flat brass metal turn into a Xeno trumpet! Pretty cool stuff!

2nd grade: Beginning form and structure and lots of singing! Ryhythm reading as well as partner songs and circle games are a weekly staple in 2nd!

1st grade: We love to play instruments in 1st grade! Reading rhythms and transferring that knowledge to instruments is lots of fun! Working with dynamics (how loud or soft) will be a focus this month.

Do you like to sing? Do you like to have fun? Are you excited about our school musical? If you answered, "YES!" to these questions, then you need to join the choir, PEAK VIEW VOICES! PEAK VIEW VOICES will rehearse after school on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:15. Permission forms are due by Friday, October 16th. Our first after-school rehearsal will be on Tuesday, October 20th. Hope to see you there!
