October 26th, 2022
THANK YOU for those who participated in our very first walk and roll to school day today! I'd love to see this initiative grow! Next month, we will walk on November 16th in honor of Ruby Bridges and her bravery in her participation in the historic integration of schools so many years ago.
There is a lot of action on our campus! The portables have been installed and 5th and 6th grade teachers are packing their classrooms to move in at the end of November for their temporary teaching locations. Demolition begins over winter break, then construction begins for our 6 new classrooms and a new library. And, look at these beautiful colors on the Penngrove campus!
Please continue to be cautious during drop off and pick up. Please follow all laws and safety measures when dropping off and picking up students, including only turning right out of the parking lot, moving to the side of Adobe to enter the lot, and following the flow of traffic. I met with CHP, Sonoma County Transportation and Public Works on Monday morning to discuss traffic and safety. There will be a survey coming out from the Sonoma County Transportation and Public Works in order to get your input as to needs, so please be on the look out for that soon.
Be sure to read the graphic below regarding our Halloween day parade and costume expectations. Teachers will be planning activities in their rooms, and will communicate details in their usual communications.
Stay awkward, brave and kind!
PennStaff Spotlight!
Question of the week from Principal Harp
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)
What is your favorite thing about fall? Why?
Check out last weeks answers below
One of the tasks of our PBIS team is to find ways for us to continuously evaluate our practices in improving student behaviors. We have an expected behavioral focus each week for staff to identify and praise students when they are "caught" doing what we expect them to be doing. The focus is introduced at our weekly assembly time. This week's focus is for students to stay seated at the lunch tables, until excused by an adult and to clean up garbage, even if it's not their own.
Monsters Inc. Comes to First Grade! #PennPTAFundsAtWork
This week in first grade students are enrolled in Monsters University. All three first grade classrooms are transformed with fun decorations connected to the Monsters Inc/Monsters University theme. When students arrived on Monday morning we opened our acceptance letter, and discussed about all that we would work towards this week to graduate. Our math this week is all Monsters theme, as we are practing comparing numbers, graphing, and ordering numbers from least to greatest. Our language arts this week is also monsters, as we have read multiple monsters picture books, and created our own monsters, using play doh monster kits, and our knowledge of adjectives.
We are so grateful for the PTA , and their special grant opportunities, that funded the supplies to make this week extra magical for the first grade students. They are so excited about all of our class work this week, and love wearing their MU badges to show others that they are enrolled! - Mrs. Lattig

Walk and Roll October Challenge!
I know, I know... Penngrove is not set up in the best way for students to walk and roll to school. HOWEVER... I have a challenge for you for National Walk and Roll month! We are setting up a "walking school bus" on October 26th. Students and families can meet at Penngrove Park at 7:45 for TK/K families and 8am for 1-6th grade families, and walk as a group to school that day! Get some friends together to meet, walk and enjoy each other's company, plus get in some steps and fresh air, all while avoiding our parking lot! I'll meet you there and we'll have prizes for students who walk!
