Welcome Back!!
It's a New Year in the Harrisburg R-VIII Libraries!
Dear Parents,
The library program at Harrisburg R-VIII has some exciting opportunities in store for your child this year:
Our program will promote the very best of children's and young adult literature for your child.
We will be doing our best to encourage a love of reading by making book suggestions to each individual, welcoming student library book suggestions, and conducting interest surveys.
We will add 100 or more new titles at each campus of the latest and most well-reviewed books, including quality non-fiction to help meet the Common Core requirements.
At each grade level, students will learn research and technology skills specific to their educational needs as well as enjoy library centers which will allow them to experience a wide-range of both tech reliant and tech free activities to foster creativity with a focus on STEM/STEAM and Maker Space opportunities.
We will collaborate with classroom teachers to enrich the learning opportunities for your child.
Library lessons, at the elementary level, and classroom collaboration, at the secondary level, will stress good Digital Citizenship, helping your child/student make safe and ethical decisions when using the internet.
Our library website will encourage the use of Web 2.0 tools as students make decisions regarding information and work with information this school year. You can access the library website from the district website homepage (harrisburg.k12.mo.us)
We look forward to a number of special events planned for this year, including three Scholastic Book Fairs, author/storyteller visits, and reading promotions and contests at both libraries.
If you would like to volunteer to help in the library, please let us know. We would love to have you. (see contact information below)
We are very excited about this coming school year and are committed to making the library a welcoming and useful place for you and your child this year. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Simpson by phone (875-0290 x5379) or by email (simpsonj@harrisburg.k12.mo.us) with questions.
