Have you heard about Chelsea Atkin's summer?
She will be traveling to Mexico for training!!! She was selected to attend Summer Sessions through Cemanahuac.
Check it out!
Cemanahuac offers “Cultural Competency in the Spanish Language Classroom” in the summer. The objective is to enable participating teachers to perfect their auditory, written, and oral Spanish skills through exposure to many cultural aspects that influence spoken and written Spanish today. The participants in the summer seminar are primarily non-native Spanish language teachers and ESOL teachers who want to communicate better with Spanish-speaking children and their parents.
To reach this comprehensive objective, morning language classes will be taught at a level commensurate to each teacher’s language level and will integrate Mexican culture into the lessons. The Cemanahuac experience offers total immersion classes for 20 contact hours each week, with no more than 5 students per teacher. These small classes allow Cemanahuac teachers to focus on individual student participation. Students are placed in a class at their specific language ability level to enable them to work on their special linguistic needs. Teacher-to-teacher interaction and sharing is encouraged.
Afternoons and weekends are devoted to gathering educational materials, enjoying cultural visits, tutoring local children, and working with speech partners. Several hours of homework are required each day. The family living program with carefully-selected Mexican host families is also an integral part of the Spanish language immersion experience. At the end of the two-week seminar participants will present a project they have prepared for their classrooms in their home schools.
Cemanahuac offers special programs for teachers which include basic Spanish classes, additional vocabulary classes, and visits to schools and educational centers in Cuernavaca. We also offer “Mesoamerica in the Classroom,” a self-paced class that helps you pull together what you learn in your language classes and on field trips to develop materials to use in your own classroom. We are happy to help teachers develop Mexican resource kits to use in their classrooms.
Others who have taken advantage of thei opportunity write:
I had an incredible journey, from which I’ve gained invaluable knowledge and first-hand experiences about a culture and people who have so much love for one another and for their beautiful country.
