January 28-February 1 Creating Joyful Leaders and Learners
LEADER IN ME AT PONTIAC
The Lighthouse Team has heard some feedback that some of you may be feeling overwhelmed/anxious about our February 28th Leadership Day event, when we will welcome fellow educators to our building to see how we promote leadership at Pontiac Elementary. There are a number of reasons why this special day is important. Here are a few reasons why:
1. Our paradigm is "everyone can be a leader. Leadership Day gives many opportunities for students to step up and lead. It is good for our kids! Have you sponsored a student leadership role yet? If not, please do!
Here's a student leadership role that needs a sponsor:
Leadership Sponsor for REPORTER
We are trying to spice up our News Show! Cheryl is adding an additional host. We also need "student reporters" that can report "live on the scene" of special events that we will then record and play on the news show in the afternoon. This Leadership Sponsor is ideal for a teacher that does not have a classroom so that they can assist these student reporters at the events, as needed. We are ready to post the job as soon as a sponsor jumps in to help! Please let Lindsey Perez know if you are willing!
2. We have great things going on at Pontiac to share with other educators. Leadership Day will give us an opportunity to "find our voice" and share the good things our Leader in Me implementation has done for our students and our school.
3. It is an expectation of The Leader in Me that we host a Leadership Day each year- last year we used our "Student Showcase" as our Leadership Day. With the creation of "club day" this year, we have even more to share!
If your club would like to participate by performing for our guests, or if you would like to set up a display of some kind to show the great things your club is doing, please sign up on the form below. We have some amazing things going on in our clubs! Let's share this with other schools so their students can benefit as well!
Club Sign Up for Leadership Day
There is also an opportunity for grade levels to be involved - if you want- optional! If you have an idea for how your grade level could showcase leadership for our guests, please add it to the form below.
Grade-level Sign Up for Leadership Day
We want to make this our own, make it something that we can be proud of, and that our kids can be proud of. Leadership is what we are about! I am confident that if we synergize together, we can both KEEP IT SIMPLE and make it a great.
If you are interested in learning more about LEADER IN ME and feel like this might help you better understand the process and implementation, there is a LEADER IN ME symposium at the end of the month of February. If you would like to attend, please let K.Barber know soon!

Congrats to Ms. Greason who was recognized at the TA mtg:
MARGARET GREASON is leaving her mark in a big way at Pontiac this year. Her colleague, Allison Barr, nominated her for this recognition and shared:
I’m not the best at writing these, but I just wanted to take a moment and recognize Mrs. Greason. I don’t think that most people outside of Special Education really know how our year has been going down in K5 and K6, In truth, K5 has been hit the hardest with having only two staff members for several weeks since Mr. O left. Even though they only had each other, Mrs Greason came in everyday with a smile on her face and a willing heart to serve Mr L and the children. It’s wasn’t always easy being the only T.A. in that room, but she did a great job helping to keep that room going! I have seen her grow so much since she started with us last spring! She is very creative and artsy. Her and Mr. L recently welcomed Ms. Avery and the three of them make a great team! I just want Ms. Greason to know that we appreciate her very much and that she is doing a great job with those kids in the room! They all love you, Mrs. Greason! And so do I!
As the principal, it has been my pleasure and joy to watch Ms. Greason this year. She epitomizes what it means to be a team-player. I continue to be appreciative of the positive disposition she brings to our school family. She is a special education teacher-in-training and sees each moment in the classroom as a new opportunity to learn and grow. She is going to make a fantastic classroom teacher of her own one day.
She is leaving a mark on this school year and has blazed the way for an incredible month of February!
Employee Choice information
Employee Choice allows full-time Richland School District Two employees to enroll their child/children into a Richland Two school of choice.
Every employee utilizing the Employee and School Board Choice option must complete the application process each school year. Now is the time to complete the form online. The deadline for submitting your form for the 2019-2020 school year is February 15, 2019.
If you fall into one of the following two categories, you need to complete the 2019-2020 Employee Choice Form:
- You are a full-time employee and you do not reside in the district but want to enroll your child in a Richland Two school.
- You are a full-time employee, reside in the district, but you want to send your child to a school other than your residentially zoned school.
If you qualify for this option, there is no need for you to apply for Expanded Choice. However, Employee Choice does not include enrollment into magnet programs or magnet centers.
