2. Teacher of the Year: Please make sure to VOTE by Monday, January 29 at 12:00 pm.
3. FanTABulous Contest - Our goal is to save more than last year's total of 168 pounds. We need 42 more pounds to meet last year's total. Turn your tabs into Mrs. Moriarty with your class name. The class in each grade level with the most tabs wins a prize.

- 1st grade - Jones has 1lb. 15 oz. and Duff has 1lb. 11 oz.

4. Box Tops for Education - We are collecting box tops to help pay for our PBIS store. Please turn them into Ms. Newsom in kindergarten or put them in the box in the office.
5. Can you name our behavior expectations? Can your students?
6. We are collecting stuffed animals for the Health department as our third quarter service project/community adoption. If you have students who bring in stuffed animals, please keep them in your room. Mrs. Moriarty will come around weekly to get a count and collect them. She will store them all so they don't become overwhelming for you to have in your room. We will be taking donations through March 6th. The prizes will be determined soon!

- 1st grade - Pugh = 36; McDowell = 15; Jackson = 6; Hood = 6

7. Expectation/Procedure Reminders
- Unless you have an extra duty (morning or afternoon), teachers should be on campus by 7:40 am and stay until 3:25 pm. Paraprofessionals should be here by 7:30 am and stay until 3:30 pm (unless we have previously spoken and arranged a different schedule).
- Every time you leave the building, you must SIGN OUT/IN in the office (no exceptions...includes going to admin or another school). Unless you have text/talked to Mrs. Garris or I, you should not be leaving during your prep period. That time is to be used for collaboration with your peers and planning for your lessons. If there is something that you must leave to do, Mrs. Garris and I are flexible, but you must talk to us. When leaving the building, you must go through the main entrance in primary or kindergarten to sign out. You cannot leave by the end doors in each hallway. This is a safety issue. If we go in to a lockdown or have any other emergency, I have to know where everyone is at and not spend time looking for someone who isn't in the building.
8. February 16th will be make up day #1 with students present and certified staff will make up the PD scheduled for that day (6 hours) at the principal’s discretion after school. Still working on what this will look like and the dates. I will put that information in next week's newsletter. President’s Day, February 19th is still a holiday and we will make up the remaining 3 snow days on May 30, May 31, and June 1st as outlined in the 2017-18 calendar. Thank all you so much for working on the AMI packets last week. The IFs are making final touches to the description sheets and the secretaries will begin making copies.
PBIS Behavior Matrix Focus

NOTES
- I will be looking for the kindness chains outside of your door. Please remember to continue to add to the chain.
- Please send me pictures of your class participating in the lessons. I share them in this newsletter; Mrs. Garris will share them in our monthly parent newsletter; and Mrs. Moriarty will share them on Facebook.
- Resources: Link to Behavior Matrix.
- Lesson plan for the week is found HERE.
- 1st and 2nd grade: During morning meeting, Coach Pitts will complete the purpose and teaching examples sections. Each teacher will be responsible for completing the student activities and follow-up/reinforcement sections.
Picture Book Recommendation of the Week
Every Sunday after church, CJ and his grandma ride the bus across town. But today, CJ wonders why they don't own a car like his friend Colby. Why doesn’t he have an iPod like the boys on the bus? How come they always have to get off in the dirty part of town? Each question is met with an encouraging answer from grandma, who helps him see the beauty—and fun—in their routine and the world around them.
This energetic ride through a bustling city highlights the wonderful perspective only grandparent and grandchild can share, and comes to life through Matt de la Pena’s vibrant text and Christian Robinson’s radiant illustrations.
