Catching Fire

Auther Susan Collins Report By Natalie Dunn Block 1

Catching Fire takes place in a dystopian society in the distant future. For the first part of the book Peeta and Katniss travel threw the Districts of Panem visiting the families of those who lost the hunger games. Then after the Quarter Quell is anounced Katniss and Peeta go to the Capital and train until they go to the arena that has a jungle theme to it. Without the setting being like this the ending of the book wouldn't have been possible because Katniss couldn't be rescued from the arena if she wasn't in the arena.

Conflict in Plot

The main conflict in the plot is man vs man. In the second half of the book Katniss is in the Quarter Quell arena and must battle the past victors to the death in a jungle themed arena with rotating battle fields with things such as monckeys, blood rain, and poison fog which could make this man vs nature as a sub conflict.

Katniss's Pin

Katniss Everdeen carries with her a mockingjay pin that symbolises many things such as the rebelian that she would lead in the next book, her home and how she'd carry it with her, and also her family because her father used to sing in the forrest and the mockingjays would stop singing to listen then carry the song threw the forrest.

I believed that the book Catching Fire was amazing. With something new happening in every chapter this book keeps you on the edge of your seat and unable to put it down. At first when they are traveling threw the districts of Panem it's a little slow, but the moment they announce the Quarter Quell you won't be able stop reading. I expesially love all the new characters such as Wiress, Beetee, Finnick, and Johanna which not only are well developed but aren't trying to kill Katniss. Though what i like best is that some characters are carried over to the next book instead of dying. But i recommend reading the book prior to this one The Hunger Games.

One of the themes of this novel is love. Katniss and Peeta went into the Quarter Quell to protect eachother their one wish was to get their lover out and Katniss thought after Peeta gave her a pearl "What an amazing thing. I hope they remember to take it out of my pocket before they cremate my body" which proves she was serious about giving her life to save fiance Peeta.
