Watch Hope Grow!

Our theme this year has been to watch hope grow. Below is a kid who hasn't always had it together, who has struggled in class, and who gave up on passing his EOCs. Over the past two weeks, many of our students were given the opportunity to take the TSI as a replacement test for STAAR. He along with several others PASSED the TSI. They are considered college-ready! I met with this student Friday to congratulate him on this achievement. He was so excited to learn he was considered college-ready. His confidence level is high and he sees that he has a future and one that is meaningful. I don't know if he will go to college but I know achieving this goal has set him up to achieve whatever it is he wants to do!

I share all of this to say, never give up on a child and watch hope grow!

Big picture

The word, intentional, has always been my go-to-word! Do it with intention...Read this, then teach our students to be intentional.

A note from Special Education!

Teachers,

As you are preparing for your semester exams, I wanted to be sure that you keep in mind our students with accommodations. Most specifically, those that have the accommodation of extra time or reduced exams.

Since students will not be able to come to you for an additional class period to complete their exam, their exam MUST be accommodated to meet their plan.

*** For Example if you are planning a 60 question test for the whole class to complete in 120 minutes, the students with accommodations would need to be given 30 questions.

These are NOT optional, so if you have questions on how to meet these needs, please let me know, I am happy to help.

Thank you all for all you do to support the needs of the students at SHS. You all RoCk!!!

Nuts and Bolts

Social Media - Just a reminder to be mindful of what you post on ALL social media outlets. Our young adult students are sometimes curious about our lives outside of school. It is always best to privatize your accounts and never allow current students to follow you.

Final Exams -Remind students who will be absent for exams that they MUST fill out a form in the front office and make arrangements to take finals on January 7th at 8:00 AM

Copies of Final Exams - Turn in a copy of your final exam and test key along with copies for each student who is absent for the final labeled with the student’s name.

We hope you are enjoying the 12 days of Christmas!
