EJMS Jaguar Weekly Aug. 8 - 12
Keeping our School Community in the Know
Welcome back to EJMS!
Are You Ready for a Great Year?
Our EJMS staff and faculty have been busy learning and preparing classrooms, hallways, bulletin boards, lesson plans, ourselves and our building for a great start to a great school year. We hope that our EJMS students and their families are getting excited as well! We can't wait to see everyone on Wed., August 10.
This is our weekly parent newsletter which you can access through your email (our mailing list is through Infinite Campus, so be sure all of your information there is up to date), our school Facebook page, Remind messages from our principal, and on our school website. We hope that this will be a helpful resource for you throughout the year with reminders, a chance to see what's happening, information about each week and upcoming events as well as things to think about and opportunities for you to be a part of our school community in important ways.
Introducing the Administration
You met our Principal, Mr. Andrew Pickerill in his opening video. As head principal, Mr. Pickerill is in charge of all school operations, faculty, and staff.
Mr. Brad Woods is our Assistant Principal who is in charge of our Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) system as well as our athletic program and building safety.
After teaching at EJMS for many years, Ms. Jess Blair became our instructional coach last year and has now moved into the position of Curriculum Resource Administrator in charge of instruction and assessment at our school.
Previously in sixth grade math, Ms. Jenny Borders is now our school Instructional Coach working with our faculty to improve teaching and learning and also as our Digital Learning coach
You will also find links for our EJMS Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook both full of information on how we do things at our school.
Please see information from our nurse, Erin Banks regarding physicals, immunizations, and health conditions requiring medication:
As we start this new school year, we will need your students' updated physicals and immunizations (this is for all grade levels). Please contact your child's pediatrician to see if they need to be updated.
All 6th graders are required to have a 6th grade physical and their 6th-grade immunizations on file. Please make sure we have these on file before the first day of school. If your child has a religious exemption and does not contain the current immunizations in a current form we will need a new form on file.
Also if your child has a medical condition that will require any medications that will need to be at school with them, or given by the nurse you will need to have an updated authorization to administer form filled out and given to the nurse along with the medication. This applies even if your child will be carrying an inhaler, epi-pen, seizure medications, diabetic medications, or any other emergency medications in their backpacks or with them at all times. You can bring medications to school on Tuesday, August 9th, and also on the first day of school (Wednesday, August 10th). If you have any questions please feel free to email our nurse, Erin Banks at erin.banks@jessamine.kyschools.us.

💻Chromebook Conversation💻
As you know, like other secondary schools in Jessamine County, EJMS has a one-to-one Chromebook program. Each student will be issued a Chromebook that they will use as a tool for learning at school and at home. Student Chromebooks will start being distributed on Monday, Aug. 14. In order to help this go smoothly and ensure that all of our students are able to get their Chromebook, there are several required items that you can take care of now, if you have not already.
- Online Registration (OLR) must be completed
- The Chromebook contract must be completed and signed
- The school fee must be paid as it helps supplement our Chromebook program
You will find more information regarding each of these including links in this newsletter and on our school website.
Chromebook FAQ
Unfortunately no. In order to use our school network, students must have a school device.
May students use their own case and/or decorate their Chromebook?
It is fine for students to use their own case for their Chromebooks. Last year, we provided sleeves to students for carrying their Chromebooks and we have some of those available again. We also hope to procure snap-on cases that students can purchase using the school fee.
As far as stickers and other decorations, students must return their Chromebook back sticker free without leftover adhesive and should not place stickers onto the Chromebook itself. Placing stickers on the case is a great alternative.
What is the $50 for?
The $50 school fee helps us supplement our purchase and maintenance of Chromebooks as well as other programs at school. This school fee can also serve as a type of insurance as the first incident which requires repair can be covered with this money.
What happens if damage occurs to the Chromebook?
We expect students to be responsible and protective of their Chromebooks; however, accidents may happen. Anytime, there is damage, you will be contacted via phone or email by your student's teacher(s) and/or our School Technology Coordinator, Ms. Sheena Roller. In this case, the school fee will kick in and then if there is further damage that will need to be paid for by students and their families. This is outlined in the Chromebook contract.
