Graden Family Newsletter, January, 2022

Welcome Back Graden Hornets,

Happy 2022 to one and all! I do not know about each of you, but I have been looking forward to the new year for quite some time now. I hope that you have a wonderful beginning to the New Year. As 2021 came to a close, I found it time to look ahead with anticipation to the opportunities before us. I am beyond thankful for the support and understanding you have given us at Graden during this year. I appreciate all that you do to help Graden be the school it is and I am hopeful that 2022 will be a wonderful year to remember.

As most of us think about New Year resolutions, we find ourselves reflecting on the academic and leadership progress our students have made and anticipate the unlimited successes of 2022.

While we work hard on the academics at Graden Elementary, we also work extremely hard in promoting positive character development in our students. Each day our students begin the school day by reciting our "Graden Pledge" along with the "Pledge of Allegiance" and their classroom mission statement. Additionally, through the 8 Habits we are teaching our children to take responsibility for their actions and to apply the principles/habits by taking on leadership roles. We truly feel that developing positive character within our students, along with solid academic skills, will give our students the skills they need for future success.

Over the next semester, we look forward to the academic growth of our hornets and will continue to embrace the social and emotional components of their development. I commend our dedicated teaching staff as they strive for continuous improvement to ensure the best learning experiences for your children. Thank you for your generosity and ongoing support of our many activities and fundraisers. You do make a difference.

In closing, remember to take care of yourself and if you need help or support, don’t be afraid to ask, we always have time for that. Thanks too, for the “gifts” of your children. We promise to handle them with great care during 2022.

COVID-19 2ND SEMESTER UPDATES

MASKS:

Because children and adults now have the opportunity to be vaccinated, we will strongly encourage everyone to wear masks, but we will no longer enforce mask-wearing starting in January. We will still require masks on school buses, in compliance with the federal requirement that currently goes through March 18, 2022.

Isolation of Sick People:

  • In compliance with the CDC's new guidance, we will require anyone who tests positive for COVID to stay home for five days, beginning on the date of the positive test or on the first day symptoms appeared.

  • If the person has no symptoms or their symptoms resolve, they may return after five days. They might need to stay home a little longer if one of their symptoms that resolved was a fever, as they must have had no fever without medication for more than 24 hours to return.

  • We will ask them to wear a mask for the next five days after they return, but we will not enforce mask wearing.

Quarantine of Exposed People:

The CDC also updated quarantine guidance for people who get exposed to someone with COVID.

  • People who are fully vaccinated within the last six months or fully vaccinated and boosted do not need to quarantine, but the CDC does recommend they wear a mask for 10 days.

  • The CDC recommends people who are not fully vaccinated within the last six months or not fully vaccinated and boosted to quarantine for five days and then wear a mask for another five days.

  • The CDC says "If you can’t quarantine you must wear a mask for 10 days. Test on day five if possible. If you develop symptoms get a test and stay home."

Starting in January, the Kansas City Health Department will take back the contact tracing duties when a Park Hill student or employee has a positive case of COVID-19. We will let families and staff know if there is a positive case in their building. We will also provide a message to families if there is someone with COVID in any of your child’s classrooms. It will be the health departments that will let you know if there needs to be a time of quarantine.

PARK HILL CLOTHING CENTER

Big picture

The Park Hill Clothing Center would like to thank all of the families who have contributed to our facility. For anyone not familiar with the clothing center there is more information here: https://www.parkhill.k12.mo.us/families/pta-clothing-center

Volunteers are greatly needed! We have been fortunate to have received numerous donations, however we’ve had a difficult time hanging up all of the incoming clothes. There are two sign up genius links for volunteers: There is one sign up genius for the 2-4 pm timeslot every Tuesday that doesn't have shoppers present. That sign up is here and students are welcome to help out https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508084fa4a72ba0fa7-canyou

Then there is a second sign up for the Tuesday 10-12pm and 5-7pm slots when shoppers will be there. When shoppers are present we can't have students helping due to confidentiality. That sign up is here: https://www.signupgenius.com/.../508084fa4a72ba0fa7...

We appreciate all of your help!!

DO YOU KNOW A PARK HILL STAR?

The Park Hill Star recognition program was started in 2015 to celebrate support staff and teachers whose work is especially noteworthy.

The following is an overview of the Park Hill Star Program:

Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students. That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee.
