Family Update - 10/23/22

Dear Scott Families,

This week at Scott DL, we had our first round of Drake Awards Assemblies and also began preparing for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Students were especially excited about the return of the AdventureMobile, and the grand opening of Haunted Gym!

The AventureMobile is back on tour! The Topeka Public Library will send its Adventuremobile (Bookmobile) to Scott DL every other Tuesday this school year. Grades Kindergarten - 2nd have the option to participate. As long as students return their book from a previous visit, they can check a new book out. We are grateful to have this option!

The first Haunted Gym was 13 years ago. It is important, says Scott DL PE Instructor, Troy St. Clair, "because students get to experience and perform a variety of different activities and skills in a themed setting. Most importantly having fun in a once-a-year special event". On Friday, PE teachers district-wide came to Scott to view the gym and its various stations.

Conferences will be here before we know it! Parent / Teacher Conferences will be held both in person or remotely (Zoom). Click here to schedule a time to meet with your child’s teacher.

Wednesday, October 26 → 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Thursday, October 27 → 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

There will be NO SCHOOL on October 27 & 28

October is anti-bullying month. Oct. 24-26, students are encouraged to participate in our theme days related to peace. Each day, we will hear a brief student-led announcement about practical ways to “keep the peace”!

You are invited to attend our annual Halloween Parade! Students will parade from the circle drive and around the school. Parents may line up around the perimeter to cheer for our Scott Panthers! Following the parade, students will return to their classrooms to enjoy treats. You are welcome to join your child at their Halloween party! Dismissal will be as normal.

• 2:30 pm - Parade begins

• Post-Parade - Class Parties

• 3:30 pm - Festivities End / Normal Dismissal

• No “blood”, weapons, or scary/violent masks or costumes

• Masks will not be permitted during the school day

• Students do not have to wear a costume to participate in the parade.

• Non-Halloween activities will be available in the media center during the parade and parties. Please communicate with your student’s teacher as soon as possible if you prefer this choice!

• Deliver treats to the office prior to 1:00 pm on 10/31, or send treats with your student.

• Please be mindful that Scott DL is a NO-PEANUT school.

• We do not have the capacity to refrigerate or heat party food.

• Doors open and breakfast begins at 8:20 a.m.

• Instruction begins at 8:40 a.m.

• Late Start will be on Fridays

• Doors open at 9:10am

• Instruction begins at 9:30 a.m.

• PreK: Dismissal is at 3:30 p.m.

• K-5: Dismissal is at 3:40 p.m.

• Don't forget to check your student’s backpack daily!

• If you know that your child is going to be absent, please call the school at 785-235-7480.

• If you need to pick your child up early, please be advised that we will call them down to the office once you arrive at the school.

• If you need to change the way your child goes home, please call the office by 1:00 for us to have time to communicate those
