Hawk Happenings- July 2021

Hawks Fly As One

The NEW school year is NEAR!!!

Greetings Hutchison Families,

It's been quite an adventure wondering what this school year will bring us but we are eagerly preparing for our students to enter our building for a new adventure in learning! As Covid continues to evolve and is ever-changing our way of operations with many unknowns, I ask for our school community to continue to be considerate and respectful of one another's stance on the pandemic, vaccinations, masking, etc. We are here to provide the best educational opportunity possible for students to be successful and career-ready!

IGNITION DAY- AUGUST 18TH

All of our freshman and any new students to Hutchison are invited to be at school on August 18th for our annual Ignition Day! This is a day organized by upper-class Ignition Mentors as a way to support our new students with a successful transition to Hutchison High School. There will be organized activities and students will have a chance to become familiar with the school, get their class schedule, lockers, meet one another, etc. before the entire student population arrives on August 19th.

OPEN HOUSE- AUGUST 18TH 5:00-6:30 P.M.

We will host our annual fall Open House on Wednesday, August 18th from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Come enjoy some refreshments and cookies, browse the school and see some of our upperclassmen in action in their cluster areas, meet staff, and visit the tables in the commons to learn about our various clubs, athletics, and activities.

FIRST DAY FOR ALL STUDENTS- August 19th

The first day for ALL Hutchison High School students will be Thursday, August 19th. Our regular school day will run from 7:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. daily. Thursday, August 19th and Friday, August 20th will be a 1-6 bell schedule.

Here's to a great new school year!

When Are the Student Schedules Ready?

Some students have already logged into their Powerschool account and noted a schedule. We do believe we are 90% correct with our loaded schedule and student placements but, as always, are aware there are unique situations that will result in schedule changes. Our counselors will be back in the office beginning August 9th so we just ask for your patience as they work to support all students addressing scheduling needs.

Will My Student Be Issued A Chromebook?

Hutchison is prepared to issue all students a Chromebook during the first few days of school. Students are expected to come to school daily with their Chromebook.

If your student has their own personal device they are welcome to use it for school. The Fairbanks School District has a network named FNSBSD-BYOD for students and staff to connect a personal phone or laptop to the district Wi-Fi. Please go to this page for instructions specific to your device's operating system. https://www.k12northstar.org/byod

Active students may connect a personal phone or laptop to the district Wi-Fi

What Should My Student Bring To School The First Day?

Each teacher will share with students their class syllabi, materials needed, and expectations for success during the first few days of school. It would not hurt to have a least a pen/pencil and some paper for that first day.

Students should come to school with a positive growth mindset. We encourage students to think of school as a daily job interview to help set them up for a career-ready future.

Hutchison does not have men's football. Students interested in playing football may play for their boundary area school OR may choose to play for Monroe Catholic High School if they want a smaller school setting.

All students involved in Alaska School Activity Association (ASAA) sanctioned activities must complete all eligibility forms and have a recent physical. Physicals are good for 18 months prior to the first practice.

* All electronic paperwork must be complete in https://www.planeths.com. Both the guardian and student are required to complete this process which takes approximately 15-30 minutes.

* All outstanding fees and fines must be paid in order to participate. Check your PowerSchool account. Fees may be paid online.

* All freshmen are automatically academically eligible to begin fall activities. All 10th-12th grade students must have earned a 2.0 GPA during the Spring 2021 semester to be academically eligible to participate.
