Oakland Elementary School

Rockin' Through the School Year!

10.8.21

Hello Oakland Families,

As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, October 11th. We hope that you have a wonderful 3 day weekend!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Adams - Principal

Lindsay Burns - Assistant Principal

A Note from PE

Mr. Staver and Mrs. Johnson are excited for another fantastic year of Physical Education! Here are a few reminders that will help students do their best in P.E. class. Students should be dressed, weather appropriate, to be outside. Gym shoes are required for P.E. class. (No crocs or loafers please.) If your child cannot fully participate in P.E. class, please send a written note to school with your child for each day they cannot participate. If a student is going to be out for more than two days a doctor’s note is required. We look forward to an awesome year!

Veteran's Day

We will be having information sent home soon for special stars that we will ask you to fill out with the names of your Veteran family members (and photos, too!). We will be proudly displaying these throughout the building for all to see those that have served. Our Boosters will be having a fall event on Friday, Oct. 15th. We will have extra stars available for you to pick up then, too! Please be on the lookout for these stars being sent home.

We appreciate your assistance in helping us to honor all of our Oakland Extended Family that have served.

Party Guidelines - Fall Fest Halloween

Unfortunately, there will not be any volunteers that are allowed to be in the building for this time. Students will be allowed to bring their costumes with them on Friday, October 29th. They will have a time that they are able to change into them. Please be advised of the following costume guidelines (students will only be in their costumes for a very short amount of time):

  • Costumes must be school appropriate
  • Please be mindful that we have little kids here - please don't send scary costumes
  • No weapon-like accessories are permitted
  • Please refrain from costume masks that cover the entire face - our every day face masks will still need to be worn
  • Please do not send your child with hair coloring or face make-up for school

If you child wishes to bring in a "treat" for their classmates, please abide by the following guidelines:

  • Treats must not be food or candy items
  • There must be enough of the item to make sure that everyone in their class is able to receive the item
  • If you are unsure if the items you are thinking of would be acceptable, please reach out to your child's teacher

A Note from the Nurse

Student / Family Conferences will be held in a Hybrid format this year. You will have the option to choose if you want to do an in-person conference or a Zoom conference. If you have not yet signed up for a conference time, please be sure to reach out to your child's teacher to secure your time. Please also let them know if you plan to be in-person for your time or will be joining via Zoom.

Extra Clothes

If your child has room in their backback (especially for our little ones), you may want to consider putting a change of clothes in there. Accidents happen, and we do not have extra clothes to be able to hand out.

Student Services Department

From our Certified School Nurse:

The newest guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, as well as the Lake County Health Department is located under the Covid-19 Helpful Information tab on the Health Services page of the Antioch CCSD#34 website (https://www.antioch34.com/Page/9187) , and is continuously updated as new information and guidelines are released. There are some differences between the state and local health department’s recommendations. We defer to the Lake County Health Department for the final word on any differing guidance. At this time the Lake County Health Department is not allowing for the option to test out of quarantine after seven days unless previously approved by them.

Please keep your student home and contact your school's nurse for guidance on the next steps to take if your student is displaying any of the following symptoms: fever (100.4 or higher) new onset of a moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, new loss of taste or smell, fatigue from an unknown cause, and muscle or body aches from an unknown cause.

As of right now, siblings of students displaying any Covid symptom can still attend school, but the symptomatic student must have a Covid test done within 24 hours of symptom onset for siblings to be able to stay in school. The most current guidance from the Lake County Health Department states that we can accept PCR OR rapid tests, but they cannot be done at home. (No over the counter tests)

Please keep your student home if anyone in the household or anyone that may be considered a close contact tests positive for Covid-19, and contact your buildings nurse for the next steps. They will work with the LCHD to monitor symptoms and calculate a date for your student to return to school. A close contact is anyone that you are within 6 feet of for greater that 15 minutes cumulatively within a 24 hour period.
