SHS Weekly Newsletter #11

Message from Mr. Mitchell
Good luck to our cross-country athletes competing at the state meet tomorrow, our marching band in their festival in Eugene tomorrow, and to our football team in their playoff game tonight!
As we move into the last part of Trimester 1, we encourage all parents and guardians to increase their monitoring of your student's grades and assignments in both Synergy and Canvas. If you have questions, please have your student politely advocate for themselves with their teacher(s). Our staff are dedicated to providing support and accountability to all of our students.
Have a great weekend and Go Bowmen!
Mr. Mitchell

When Winnie learns of the magic behind the Tuck’s unending youth, she must fight to protect their secret from those who would do anything for a chance at eternal life. As her adventure unfolds, Winnie faces an extraordinary choice: return to her life, or continue with the Tucks on their infinite journey.

Thank you to all who have paid their student's AP fees. I believe all our students have completed the required online registration.
If you have a student who is planning on NOT taking the AP exam in May, please let me know ASAP. AP imposes an additional S40 fee to any changes made after Nov 13. So, if your student decides to not take the exam I will be able to credit your account all but $40. Look for the email I sent with more detailed information.

Focus on Attendance: Every Day Matters!
Sherwood School Districts’s chronic absenteeism rate has more than doubled since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chronic absence (missing 10% or more of school) is an early warning sign that students are at risk of not reading proficiently by the end of third grade, struggling academically in middle school and dropping out of high school.
Getting back into the habit of daily attendance matters more than ever. As a district, we are committed to partnering with families to reduce chronic absenteeism. One step we will be taking is early communication to families notifying them of attendance concerns. If a student has missed more than 10% of the school year, the school will be reaching out to parents/guardians either with a phone call or a letter. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect with their peers and teachers.
Thank you for partnering with us to support your child to thrive and succeed in school through regular attendance. For tips on how to help your child build healthy attendance habits, see this helpful handout .
