Teachable Moments

If you haven't seen it or taken part in it you are missing out. Kids are excited about One School One Book. Thanks to all the teachers that have implemented discussion and some activities getting our kids excited about the book the whole school is reading in March. I will share out more activities this weekend and can't wait for the book reveal on March 1st at 2 PM. I do need some help planning a skit/movie trailer to unveil it to the kids. It was a happy accident, but I have been amazed to hear the kids thinking and how many reading skills they are naturally developing from the clues. Characters, plots, settings, hair-brained theories, and some really close guesses to books they know and love. I hope you are using some of the things that have been shared and out new PD skills from Monday to drive some really new things in your classrooms. If you aren't on board yet, there is still time, let's get some enthusiasm behind this movement.

We will have more PBL talk Wednesday AM, Bring those planning sheets with you and we will work in small groups. ALSO! I almost forgot!!!! the Tuesday and Wednesday after Memorial Day, May 29 & 30, we WILL be having PBL PD/Training by Mike Gorman from Buck Institute. We also have the TinCaps game on May 29th, so make your calendars, more details to come but lots of great stuff those two days.

Also, See in upcoming events the change for Girls NIght (to March 9) and the Elearning dates for February 15th's closing.

Lastly my latest driving to school Jam, Young Man, by Justin Timberlake. Yeah, feel free to try and take my man card from me, Good Luck :)

The song makes me think about what I want from my kids as they become older. My kids are fortunate, I guess because they have people trying to lead them to make a choice in life that will ultimately make them happy. I hope and pray that is the case. I work with kids to hopefully fill that role for the kids here and the kids I have worked alongside in my life. The goal for all of us should be to guide kids to what they will find in life that makes them happy. I guarantee it's not testing..... don't let that define you or our students. They are much much more. Have a great weekend #gobeyond
